The key thing I want to point out about menus is that every menu has a corresponding block managed using the Structure Blocks form. This means a menu block has the same functionality as a regular block. You can move a menu to any region in your site. You have the ability to show it on specific content types, pages, or user groups. Please note that although you can hide a menu from a specific user group, this does not mean the user group cannot access the pages to which the menu links point. By default, Drupal displays links vertically, which means CSS must be used to display links horizontally (see 8). When you are configuring your site, it is easy to get sidetracked and say, I m just going to fix these menu links really quickly so they display correctly, and then I ll continue configuring the site. Don t do it! Run away! Stick with configuration and then theme!

The management menu is located in the upper toolbar and contains links to administrative pages. It is also displayed in the left sidebar in the default Garland theme.
Navigation
Modules add links intended for site visitors and users to the navigation menu by default. It is located in the left sidebar of the default Garland theme and may or may not appear depending on whether a module has added a link to the menu.
Secondary menu
The secondary menu is used for links that play a smaller role than main menu links and may be displayed in the footer or underneath the main menu. Themes often display this menu as a page element.
User menu
The user menu is displayed in the administrative toolbar and contains links to the user s account page and to log out.
Global menu settings
A number of global menu settings are available at Structure Menus SETTINGS, as shown in Figure 3-20. (I call these global menu settings to differentiate them from individual menu settings; Drupal refers to both as menu settings.) The Default menu for content drop-down determines which menu is preselected as the menu setting s parent item on the content creation form. I usually set this to the same menu selected in the Source for the Main links drop-down.
Figure 3-20. Menu settings that apply to all menus are accessed at Structure Menus Settings. The Source for Main links setting is used by many themes to determine which menu it should use as the main menu. Any menu can be used as the source for main links, which depending on your theme may be displayed as a page element. The Source for Secondary links is much the same; any menu can be used, and your theme may display it as a page element. However, an advanced option allows you to set the
