The simplicity of a leap year is appealing. It s a year in which an extra day is added to the calendar in order to synchronize it with the earthly seasons. However, for a leap year to be even somewhat effective, the calendar in question needs to approximate the duration of one earthly trip around the sun. Before the idea of the leap year came along and the Greek Sosigenes incorporated it into the Julian calendar, synchronization of the seasons with the calendars of the time occurred via the addition of varying number of days to the different calendars of the times. Revelry, festivities, and celebrations often marked the extra days. Effectively, time stood still from the calendar perspective but not necessarily so from the perspective of creditors and debtors. Paying bills on time could have been very tricky in those days! Sam wondered how modern-day network administrators would have handled NTP synchronization during such times. It s better that some avoided the experience even as they well understood that all were role-playing during different planetary energy states. Rather than merely adding a leap year every four years, a leap year is added every year that is divisible by four, except for years that are also divisible by 100 but not divisible by 400. It all stems from the fact that the tropical year, which is the mean duration between the vernal equinoxes, has been measured to be 365.242190 days long instead of 365.25. With the latter number, they could have easily avoided their calendar and leap year gymnastics, Sam mused. Even as those gymnastics are not entirely precise, they will likely serve them quite well for some time to come, before the modern methods of timekeeping fall by the wayside, just as their predecessors before them. According to the Gregorian leap year formula, the outplayed planetary energy states identified in the Gregorian calendar as years AD 2000 and AD 1600 would have been leap years. Those planetary energy states identified as AD 1700, AD 1800, and AD 1900 would not have been leap years, as they are divisible by 100 but not divisible by 400. All other years between AD 1600 and AD 2000 that were divisible by four would have been leap years. Using the preceding leap year formula, in the Gregorian calendar 97 years out of every 400 are leap years. Sam scanned the unplayed energy states of AD 2100, AD 2200, AD 2300, and AD 2400.
