Figure 6-5. Use the Organization form to tie your employees to their roles. You can work with this form using different views specifically; Line, Matrix, and Project which you can select in the Show combo box at the top-left corner of the form. You can also visualize the organization as a grid or as a tree by toggling the Tree Control check box. It s important that you understand the difference between the Line, Matrix, and Project organization types: Line: The Line organizational structure is used for your company hierarchy, and contains all levels of employees and their positions within your organization. Only employees can be associated with this type. Positions in the Line organization are called Jobs. Matrix: The Matrix organizational structure is often used for long-term projects or work that spans across the Line organization. Using the Matrix type, you can associate any person from the network with the Matrix. Positions in the matrix type are called Roles. Project: The Project organizational structure is often used for short-term projects. It is similar to the Matrix type; anybody from the network can be associated with Project roles. The buttons on the right side of the form allow you to view different types of data as it relates to your organizational units. If you are using demo data, click around to investigate. If you re inputting data as you go, there won t be anything to see yet.

The Loan Types and Loan Items Forms
Axapta makes it very easy to control the goods (such as cell phones, computers, automobiles, etc.) that employees may have out on loan from the business. These forms are a simple way to keep control of company property. First, set up the loan types (the categories that loan items fall into) by selecting Human Resources Setup Employee Loan Loan Types (see Figure 6-7). Loan Types also lets you specify the default grace period before the item is overdue.
Figure 6-7. The Loan Types form is where you set up the parent categories for loan items.
CHAPTER 6 HUMAN RESOURCES
Next, set up the actual loan items, such as Treo 600 (as shown in Figure 6-8), by selecting Human Resources Setup Employee Loan Loan Items. With Loan Item, you can specify the standard number of loan days, days of grace (if different from the default), serial number, and person who is in responsible for the item (for example, the IT manager may be responsible for all cell phones on loan). From the Loan Item screen you can also launch the Loan form that is used to loan goods to people in your network. (The Loan form is also found at Human Resources Periodic Loan.)
Figure 6-8. From the Loan Item form you can create new items for loan, and check the status of items.
