What about interviews If you plan to interview people in the wild at conferences, trade shows, events, or their workplaces, you ll need something else. You need something to plug your two or more microphones into and to plug into your Mac or PC to provide those two separate channels to Audacity. That something is a combination audio card/mixer, like PreSonus Audio Electronics Inspire 1394, which will cost you about $200 USD. Want to do interviews for your podcast and not leave the comfort of your own desk You can go with the traditional technology known as a telephone and combine that with a small digital recorder connected to your phone line.3 That will work, but be forewarned: Telephone audio quality is terrible, and batteries die at the exact wrong moment.

Q. I guess the place to start with is tell me about the podcast network and how this first Australian podcast directory and the first Australian podcast got started A. Well, the first Australian podcast, which was G Day World, started in November 2004.There was a chap called Phil Torrone, who back then was doing the Engadget podcast. I started listening to Phil s podcast, and Phil really inspired me. And he was always urging his listeners to stand up and fight for their rights. Anyway, I remember listening to Phil and just getting really excited, because it was the first time I d ever heard anyone that sounded like me. Phil was intelligent, he was angry, he was a geek, he was passionate, he was a revolutionary, he was a rebel, and I thought, Wow, that sounds like me! I could do that! That s how I sound to myself inside my head. I also thought that we could easily see how I think at the time there were already a couple thousand podcasts in the world we could easily see a day where there would be 500,000 podcasts. And I remember thinking that it was difficult already to find the blogs that I wanted to read, and how it would be increasingly difficult to find the podcasts that I wanted to listen to in a directory-style world. So we had this idea that we could create a network that only consisted of high-quality shows that we produced and had some management control over, that would hopefully become a destination site for podcast audiences. And the third idea that we had was that advertisers, once they caught on to what was happening with podcasts, wouldn t want to deal with thousands of individual podcasters to put ads on their inventory. They d want to deal with some sort of central buying process, acquisition process. So with those three things in mind, we started The Podcast Network [TPN] in January of 2004, and we launched it on 14 February 2005. And at the time, it was the first podcasting business. So I guess we surprised a lot of people when we launched TPN. In a lot of ways, most people still hadn t heard of podcasting, and yet we d seen a commercial opportunity and decided to throw ourselves into it and build a commercial model around podcasting. So that was how it began, man!
