Since we already have the dataset in the project, it s time to add a data table to it. Please use the following steps to add a data table inside the dataset: 1. You can go to the dataset designer in two ways: double-click dsDashboard inside Solution Explorer, or right-click dsDashboard node and select View Designer. 2. To add the data table, right-click the design surface, and select Add DataTable. 3. Click the header of the newly created data table, and name it dtDashboard. Add columns to dtDashboard by right-clicking DataTable and selecting Add Column. 4. Add the following columns into the data table; your data table should look like Figure 13-12: NewsTitle (System.String) NewsLink (System.Double)

Step 2: Designing the Report Layout
We re all set to start designing the report layout. Let s start by adding the report: select the project in Solution Explorer, right-click it, and select Add New Item. Then, select Report from the Add New Item dialog box. Name the report rptDashboard.rdlc, and click the Add button to complete the process and add a new report to the project.
Setting Up the Page
So far in this book, we have used the letter-size page and either a landscape or portrait page orientation. For this report, we will use a custom page setup. Instead of using our regular letter size, we will use a page setup that is 5 ! 4 inches. Let s set up the page: Right-click the open area inside the design surface, and select Properties. Under the Layout tab of the Report Properties dialog box, set the page width and height to 4 and 5 inches, respectively. I d also like you to set the top, bottom, left, and right margins to zero. Please make sure your page layout settings looks similar to the ones shown in Figure 13-13.

Designing the Body Section
As you can see in the design shown in Figure 13-14, all report items are inside the body section. Let s start with the rectangle item, which holds our logo. Start by dragging Report Items Rectangle from the toolbox and dropping it inside the body section on the report designer. Next, drag and drop an image item inside the rectangle item. Let s take care of the RSS news feed section. For this section, we need two text box items and one list item. First, drag and drop the text box item, and add the list item. Once the list item is on the design surface, drag and drop the second text box item inside the list item. Please set the properties of the various report items according to values specified in Table 13-6.

Please make sure your final design looks similar to Figure 13-14.
Figure 13-14. The report designer with all report items for the dashboard Did you notice, in Figure 13-14, that the news title from the RSS feed looks like a link that we can click Well, to achieve this, we need to do two steps. The first step is to set the TextDecoration property of the text box to Underline.
CHAPTER 13 s USING THIRD-PARTY TOOLS AND HAVING FUN WITH RS
The second step is to instruct the text box to jump to the underlying resource when the user clicks it. This is simple to do; you select the NewsTitle text box and right-click it to access the Properties window. Once inside the Properties window, select the Navigation tab (see Figure 13-15), and select the Jump to URL radio button. Next, either type or select =Fields!NewsLink.Value (the link to the actual news item from the Yahoo web site) as the value for that option.
