When you select the Require Data Encryption (Disconnect If None) check box, as shown in Figure 10-9, the list of enabled authentication protocols is further restricted. Specifically, only MS-CHAP v1 and MS-CHAP v2 are enabled, and CHAP is no longer available. For all authentication protocols except PAP, authentication data (user name and password) is encrypted. However, the MS-CHAP protocols also support encryption of PPP connection data through Microsoft Point-to-Point Encryption (MPPE). For the connection data to be successfully encrypted, the remote access policy applied to the connection must require data encryption. (Remote access policies do require data encryption by default.)

Finally, when you select the Use Smart Card setting, as shown in Figure 10-10, only the EAP-TLS authentication protocol is enabled. On the client, the EAP-TLS protocol is des ignated by the Smart Card Or Other Certificate (Encryption Enabled) selection under the Use Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) option.

Configuring Authentication Protocols: Server Side
To view or modify the authentication protocols enabled on the remote access server, right-click the server icon in the Routing And Remote Access console and then click Properties. In the server properties dialog box, select the Security tab. On the Security tab, click the Authentication Methods button to open the Authentication Methods dia log box, shown with its default settings in Figure 10-11.

Finally, to view or modify the authentication protocols allowed by a remote access policy, select the Remote Access Policies node in the Routing And Remote Access console, double-click the appropriate policy, and then click the Edit Profile button in the policy properties dialog box. In the Edit Dial-In Profile dialog box, select the Authentication tab. Figure 10-12 shows the default settings of this tab. Note that by default, no EAP methods are enabled.

Lesson 2 of this chapter covers remote access policies in more detail. To configure authentication settings in a remote access policy, complete the following steps: 1. Perform one of the following tasks:
Open the Routing And Remote Access console and, if necessary, double-click Routing And Remote Access and the server name. Open the Internet Authentication Service console and, if necessary, doubleclick Internet Authentication Service.
2. In the console tree, click Remote Access Policies. 3. In the details pane, double-click the policy that you want to configure. 4. Click Edit Profile. 5. On the Authentication tab, specify any required settings. 6. Click OK.
Practice: Creating a Dial-Up Access Server
In this practice, you use the Routing And Remote Access Server Setup Wizard to configure Computer1 as a dial-up remote access server.
Exercise 1: Creating a Dial-Up Server by Using the Routing And Remote Access Server Setup Wizard
In this exercise, you log on to Computer1 and remove any previous configuration from Routing And Remote Access. You then run the Routing And Remote Access Server Setup Wizard to begin configuring dial-up remote access to Computer1. 1. From Computer1, log on to Domain1 as Administrator. 2. Click Start, select Administrative Tools, and then click Routing And Remote Access. The Routing And Remote Access console opens. 3. In the console tree, right-click COMPUTER1 (Local), and then click Disable Rout ing And Remote Access. If this option is not available, go to step 5. A message box appears, informing you that you are disabling the router and ask ing whether you want to proceed. 4. Click Yes. A message indicates that the Routing And Remote Access service is stopping. 5. In the console tree, right-click COMPUTER1 (Local), and then click Configure And Enable Routing And Remote Access. The Routing And Remote Access Server Setup Wizard appears.
