You can transfer each object to the clipboard by selecting it and using the copy command, and insert it into any other area again from there . Apart from that, those duplication methods that are possible within a worksheet and without the detour through the clipboard are interesting and worthwhile, especially in the chart solutions described in this book . Tip When solutions are developed using the rS1 .Method, objects need to be duplicated quite

frequently . This applies in particular to using controls, and also to using decoration objects and other different types of graphical design features . It s very important to first completely format an element with the design features (based on its type, content, formatting, and function) to be duplicated before you duplicate it, and to carefully check its properties and effect . Several duplications can be made based on a single primary object, and this technique is useful for quite a few solutions . Of course, it s particularly annoying if you discover at the end of your work that you ve already made mistakes in the primary object, which you now have to correct uniformly little by little and piece by piece in the duplicated objects .

Note The objects in the Areas 1 worksheet of the \Samples\0501_Graphics01.xlsx file are well suited for the methods described in this section . Arranging objects is a task that you ll encounter very often when designing appealing presentation solutions . On the one hand, this involves effectively layering several objects . Layering involves creating an object stack that the viewer looks at from above and in which he can only partially see one or several elements . It also means (often simultaneously) linking different objects to a group that then appears and can be dealt with if so desired as a single object .

Foreground and Background
It s pretty easy to stack objects . The following actions relate to the content of Figure 5-4 . Double-click or right-click to select the object, whose position you want to change in the stack .
Double-click: Drawing Tools or Picture Tools will appear in the Ribbon with its Format tab and the Arrange group where the Bring to Front or Send to Back commands are available . Right-Click: You'll find the just-mentioned commands in the context menu . In both cases, you also have the subsequent option to move the position by one level, send the object to the back completely, or bring it to the front completely .
Note Note that Office 2007 also has considerably more to offer than its previous versions for
stacking objects . This is mainly because you can make the color fills of objects completely or partially transparent, and interesting effects can be achieved in this way (see the simple example on the right in Figure 5-4) .

Grouping Objects
The procedure and approach for grouping objects is very similar to stacking objects . You have selected several objects and want to create a group from this selection, and you want to treat this group as a single object in further processing . In Office 2007 you don t need to ungroup a group created in this way if you want to change some of its parts comprehensively and individually . The following is a description of the procedure shown in Figure 5-5 . 1. Use one of the methods described above to create a multiple selection of different objects . Choose the Group command from the context menu or from the Arrange group of the Drawing Tools or Picture Tools . 2. When you click a single member (object) of a group, the whole group is selected . A rectangular border appears, in which all members of the group are placed . In this status, all commands that you subsequently execute on each member of the group will be used in the same way . You can therefore move, position, arrange, and format the whole group .
