Unplug the USB flash drive and plug it into the PC you want to add to your network. After the PC finishes reading the configuration settings from the USB flash drive, a list of options is displayed in the Removable Disk (D:) dialog box.

In the What do you want Windows to do area, click Wireless Network Setup Wizard, and then click OK.

When prompted to confirm the addition of the PC to the new ad hoc wireless network, click OK. Repeat steps 10 through 12 for each PC you want to add to the network, up to a maximum of 16.

Click Start, and then click My Documents. In the My Documents window, browse to the Microsoft Press\Laptops and Tablet PCs with Windows XP SBS\Presentations\SharingData folder. The contents of the SharingData folder are displayed.

On the File and Folder Tasks menu, click Share This Folder. In the My Shared Files Properties dialog box, click the Sharing tab, click the Share This Folder option, and then click OK.

To find the name of the computer on which the shared data is stored, click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. The System Properties dialog box appears.

In the System Properties dialog box, click the Computer Name tab. The name of the computer is displayed to the right of Full computer name.

Important If your PC is part of a corporate domain, you can find the domain name to the right of Domain. If you look to the right of Full computer name, you will see your computer name with the domain name appended to it. You need only the computer name for this exercise. 19

On the taskbar of one of the PCs that you added to the ad hoc network, click Start, and then click My Network Places. The My Network Places window appears.

In the Address Bar, type \\ followed by the name of the computer that is hosting the shared content, and then click the Go button. The PC will search the ad hoc network to find the other PC. This may take a few seconds.

When the other PC is successfully located, on the updated My Network Places page, double-click the Sharing Data folder.

However well-intentioned, this type of automatic action can be frustrating. Windows XP offers several power schemes that you can configure to ensure your mobile PC behaves the way you want. If you are planning to give a presentation and want to ensure that your computer screen is up and running at all times, you can modify the selected power scheme to prevent it from turning off. In this exercise, you will modify power options to ensure that your computer screen never turns off.
