As a DST, you will be required to support users who need to conserve power on their desktop computers, as well as their laptops that require battery power to function. You should know how to place a workstation in Standby mode as well as Hibernate mode to save battery power, and you should also know how to conserve power by shutting off the monitor and hard disks when there is a certain predetermined time frame of inactivity. To answer the questions in this objective, you should know how to configure a workstation to Hibernate and Standby modes, and you should be able to troubleshoot issues where Hibernate or Standby modes did not work on a particular workstation. You should be very good in using the Power Options dialog box, and you should know all the options available.

You are a DST for a large insurance firm that has more than 200 users running Windows XP Professional workstations. A sales manager calls and says she was working on several important documents and a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, and that she was inter rupted by an important telephone call. During the telephone call, her workstation went into Standby mode, and then she accidentally kicked the power cord from her workstation. She told you that she quickly plugged it back in, but that did not return to the screen where her documents were displayed after logging on, as she usually does. She wants to know why this happened. What should you tell her A. You should tell her that Standby mode only returns you to the state the desktop was in if she selected Enhanced Standby mode. B. You should tell her that Standby and Hibernate settings are affected by power outages, and that in either case she will have lost her data. C. You should tell her that Standby mode writes the desktop settings to memory and that the power outage erased everything that was stored in memory. D. You should tell her that her system BIOS disabled Standby mode when the power was lost on her workstation.

You are a DST for a small engineering company that supports ten engineers who travel throughout the United States doing presentations. The engineers are running Windows XP Professional on their laptops and require long battery life due to the air travel time when numerous reports are written. They also attend presentations and conferences where the laptops are sitting on conference room tables for hours on end. The chief engineer is concerned that too many of the engineers are leaving their laptops on when it is not necessary and have asked the engineers to put the workstations in Standby mode when the workstations are inactive. The engineers are complaining that it is too difficult to remember when to do it, and that they do not like it when the workstation automatically goes into Standby mode when they are thinking or analyzing information on the screen and not giving input. What should you suggest to the engi neers that would solve this problem (Choose the best answer.) A. You should suggest that the engineers select Hibernate, Standby, or Do Nothing When The Laptop Lid Is Closed. B. You can suggest that the engineers configure the laptops to go into Standby mode when 30 minutes of inactivity occur because that would give them more than enough time to think and analyze. C. You can suggest that the engineers purchase additional batteries. D. You can suggest that the engineers request to plug their laptops into power outlets when in a conference room environment.
