Unlike Windows Installer packages, SCCM packages do not use a single file database format. package (Windows installer) A database file with an .msi extension that contains everything a computer needs to install and run a particular application. Not to be confused with package (System Center Configuration Manager). Ping.exe A command-line program that is the Windows version of a standard TCP/IP network testing tool that transmits a series of Echo Request messages by using a protocol called Internet Control Message Protocol. The computer receiving those messages then replies with a series of Echo Reply messages, which Ping.exe displays. Pre-boot Execution Environment (PxE) A hardcoded environment build into network interface adapters, which enables a computer to boot by downloading configuration data and startup files from servers on the network.
