Real World Encouraging Expert Users
In just about any size organization or department, you are likely to find users who are more interested in computing than others, and you should take advantage of these users when you find them. In larger companies in particular, users within a department often have a better understanding of how the people in the department use printing resources than the IT support staff. At the least, you should encourage these people to participate when planning the location and access of printing resources. You might also find that some users are willing to manage documents, or even manage printers and use IT support as a backup. This practice offloads some of the administrative overhead and can result in more efficient use of resources.

Lesson 1
Introduction to Printer Administration
12-9
Lesson Summary
Printer management involves assigning forms to paper trays, setting separator pages, redirecting documents, and taking ownership of printers. Document management involves pausing and resuming documents, configuring notifications, and deleting documents from the print queue. Troubleshooting printers involves identifying and resolving printer problems such as offline printers, printers that are out of paper or ink, printers that are incorrectly configured, and situations in which users are not using a printer properly. You can gain access to printers for administration by using the Printers And Faxes window accessed through Control Panel. Windows XP Professional allows you to control printer usage and administration by assigning permissions.
