2. Which of the following statements are correct for Active Directory Global Catalogs (Choose all that apply.) a. The Global Catalog is the central repository of information about objects in a tree or forest. b. By default, a Global Catalog is created automatically on the first domain controller in the first domain in the forest. c. The Global Catalog is a list of definitions that determines the kinds of objects and the type of information about those objects that can be stored in Active Directory. d. You can have only one Global Catalog server in each domain.

The correct answers are A and B. C is not correct because this statement describes the Active Directory schema, not a Global Catalog. D is not correct because you can have multiple Global Catalog servers in a domain.

3. Every object in Active Directory has a(n) _______________________________ that uniquely identifies an object and contains sufficient information for a client to retrieve the object from the Directory.
4. A(n) _________________________________ is a 128-bit number that is assigned to an object when it is created and is guaranteed to be unique.
GUID
5. What is the difference between a contiguous namespace and a disjointed namespace Give an example of each type of namespace.
In a contiguous namespace, the name of the child object in an object hierarchy always contains the name of the parent domain. A tree is a contiguous namespace. In a disjointed namespace, the names of a parent object and of a child of the same parent object are not directly related to one another. A forest is a disjointed namespace.
Case Scenario Exercise Questions

1. Would you suggest a single domain or multiple domains for this organization Why
You should suggest a single domain for the company. Because the company is relatively small and is connected by a high-speed, dedicated link there is no real need to use separate domains for the locations. Also, the company wants users to be able to log on anywhere in the company without specifying a logon location, which requires a single domain. With two domains, users would sometimes need to specify the domain to which they were logging on.

Overview of Active Directory Service
2. How many sites should you suggest Why
You should suggest that this company create two sites: one for the Memphis network and one for the Chicago network. Sites are based on the underlying network structure. Because there are two distinct high-speed LANs, it would be best to create a site for each.
3. Which logical Active Directory structure would allow you to group objects in the Chicago location so that local administrators could manage those objects
OUs would allow you to create administrative boundaries for each location.
4. How many Global Catalog servers should you suggest and where would you place them
At a minimum, you should place one Global Catalog server in each site so that users can access the Global Catalog even if the link between the two sites is down.

1. One of the managers has proposed a model that uses a single domain tree with two domains. Why would this type of model not meet the requirements
The company wants to maintain two distinct namespaces (contoso.com and litware.com). Because all domains in a single tree must share a contiguous namespace, the manager s model will not work.
2. Using what you have learned in this chapter, sketch a diagram of a domain structure that meets these requirements.
Because there are two distinct namespaces (contoso.com and litware.com), you must use a separate tree to represent each namespace. Within the litware.com tree, you could create a single domain named litware.com. Within the contoso.com tree, you could create a root domain named contoso.com, and then create child domains named dallas.contoso.com and houston.contoso.com. This would satisfy the requirement that the domain structure represent the different locations of the Dallas and Houston offices. An example sketch is shown in Figure 14-10.
