Practice 1: Configure a server running Windows Server 2003 as a remote access dial-up server. Preferably, this computer should be multihomed, but you can configure a computer that has a single network interface card (NIC). Configure RAS policies to require Kerberos v5 and strong passwords. Practice 2: Plan a security structure to meet the needs of remote access clients and users. This plan should involve the use of security groups and possibly the creation of at least one organizational unit (OU). Implement this plan using Active Directory. Practice 3: Create at least one user account by accessing the Demand-Dial Wizard through the Routing And Remote Access snap-in. Practice 4: Examine the various methods of allocating IP addresses to RAS cli ents. Choose a method. Then implement and test it.

Practice 5: Configure a remote access client. Preferably, you should use a computer with either the Microsoft Windows XP Professional or the Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional operating system, which enables you to specify Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) encapsulation. If you cannot connect through a telephone line, use a null modem cable to connect to the server. Practice 6: Configure your network so that the RAS server is a RADIUS client, and IAS provides authentication policies. Practice 1: Configure as a router a computer running Windows Server 2003. Although you can configure the NIC with two IP addresses and create a log ical subnet, you would be better off using a multihomed machine connected to at least two physical subnets. Practice 2: Configure a Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/ IP) packet filter that restricts traffic between subnets. TCP/IP can filter IP packets based on the TCP port number, the User Datagram Protocol (UDP) port number, and the IP protocol number. Practice 3: Use the Routing And Remote Access snap-into view connected remote access clients, send a message to a single client, send a message to all clients, and disconnect a client. Practice 4: Use the Routing And Remote Access snap-in to add a routing interface. If you have not already done so, add a demand-dial interface. Configure demand-dial filters and dial-out hours. Practice 5: By default, Windows Server 2003 NAT translates a single public address to a range of private addresses. Reconfigure your sever to provide the NAT service. Configure NAT to use a range of public IP addresses. If your practice network consists of two isolated subnets, you can declare one of them public and the other private, and practice NAT configuration before you go on the Internet for real. Practice 6: If you can do so on your practice network, configure a second server as a router. Configure demand-dial interfaces on the first (calling) router and on the second (answering) router for certificate-based Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) authentication. If problems occur with this pro cedure, configure the routers to use preshared key authentication instead. Practice 1: View an IP routing table. If you are unsure of the function of any of the columns (or fields ), consult the references listed in the Further Read ing section.

Implementing, Managing, and Maintaining Routing And Remote Access (4.0)
Practice 2: Add a Layer2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) and a Point-to-Point Tun neling Protocol (PPTP) port. Configure a device on a port. Practice 1: Reconfigure your two routers, specifying a secure connection between two private networks in the Routing And Remote Access Server Setup Wizard on each server. The connection between the two servers can be persistent (always on) or on demand (demand-dial). Practice 2: Investigate how to set up a secure VPN between the two servers. (Note: The examination does not explicitly state that you need to know how to perform this task, but you ll gain a lot of valuable information through this investigation.) Practice 1: Use the Routing And Remote Access snap-in to check the port sta tus of a particular port. Practice 2: Use the Logging function in the Routing And Remote Access snapin to monitor error logging in the system Event Log. Investigate the various levels of event logging and decide which level is required for various types of monitoring tasks. Practice 3: Investigate Troubleshooting Remote Access VPNs in the Windows Server 2003 online help files. Practice 1: Determine how to gather demand-dial troubleshooting informa tion. You should know how to check the following: the unreachability rea son, the credentials being used by the calling router, the authentication provider being used by the answering router, the status of the port on the answering router, the status of the demand-dial interface, and the static route for a demand-dial interface. Practice 2: Examine Troubleshooting Demand-Dial Routing and Troubleshooting Router-to-Router VPN Routing in the Windows Server 2003 online help files.
