The Outlook client provides the highest functionality of any messaging client that can be used with Exchange Server, but also introduces some security risks when used to provide access from the Internet. The most significant security issue with using MAPI Outlook clients to provide remote access has to do with the nature of RPC communications. Another potential security risk for MAPI Outlook clients is that the encoding used for RPC is not secure. The ISA Server RPC filter enables secure Outlook MAPI connections from the Internet by dynamically managing the assignment of the ports required. The RPC filter uses the Exchange RPC protocol which includes the UUID interfaces for all the Exchange Server services. Outlook 2003 with Exchange Server 2003 running on Windows Server 2003 supports RPC over HTTP, which provides MAPI client access to the computer running Exchange Server without using the RPC ports. Users running Outlook 2003 can connect directly to a computer running Exchange Server over the Internet by using HTTP or HTTPS. To enable RPC over HTTP, you must configure an RPC over HTTP proxy server, and then configure an Outlook client profile. Then you must configure ISA Server to support this feature by using a Web publishing rule to publish the \Rpc virtual directory on the RPC proxy server. ISA Server can also be used to publish Exchange Server for clients such as Outlook Express. These clients use POP3 or IMAP4 to read messages in the Exchange server mailboxes and use SMTP to send messages to the computers running Exchange Server. These clients can also be configured to use POP3S, IMAP4S, and SMTPS.

Integrating ISA Server 2004 and Exchange Server
to enforce the corporate security policy that states the no e-mail attachments that are executables or Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting Edition scripts should be allowed from the Internet. Several users in your organization must be able to read and send e-mail from remote locations using both private and public machines. You need to ensure that confidential files attached to e-mails will not be cached on public machines.
Scenario 1 Question
1. How will you configure ISA Server to meet these requirements
Scenario 2
You have deployed Exchange Server 2003 as a front-end server in your perimeter network. You are using ISA Server 2004 as your front-end firewall. Several users in your organization with laptops require remote access to update their Outlook calendar and send and receive e-mail. All users use Outlook 2003. You need to ensure that the client connection to the Exchange Server computer is as secure as possible.
Scenario 2 Question
1. How will you configure your environment to meet the company requirements
Troubleshooting Lab
In this lab, you will troubleshoot a Web site access issue. Since you configured the OWA access rule, users on the Internet report that they can no longer access the Coho Vineyard secure Web site. When they try to access the Web site, the users are presented with a logon screen. Because most of the users do not have user accounts in your domain, they cannot authenticate and cannot access the secure site. You need to ensure that both the secure Web site and the OWA Web site are accessible to Internet clients, and that access to both Web sites is as secure as possible.
