The command-line parameters of Rqc.exe are as follows:

ConnName The name of the remote-access connection on this host. The value of this parameter can be inherited from the Connection Manager profile %DialRasEntry% variable. TunnelConnName The name of the tunnel connection on this host. The value of this parameter can be inherited from the Connection Manager profile %Tunnel RasEntry% variable. TCPPort The TCP port used to send the notification message. The default TCP port used by Rqs.exe is 7250. If you configure Rqs.exe to use a TCP port other than 7250, you must specify that TCP port number here.

Domain The domain of the connecting user. The value of this parameter can be inherited from the Connection Manager profile %Domain% variable. UserName The user name of the connecting user. The value of this parameter can be inherited from the Connection Manager profile %UserName% variable. ScriptVersion A text string that contains the script version. You can specify a text string using keyboard characters, except the /0 character sequence. This script version is used to ensure that the client is using the latest version of the script. If rqc.exe does not return the correct script version, the client will not be released from quarantine.

The Connection Manager family of programs is a set of optional components included with Windows Server 2003 and Windows 2000 Server than can be used to create a managed remote-access solution. You can use Connection Manager to create a client installation file that will pre-configure remote-access clients. The Connection Manager family of products includes the Connection Manager client, CMAK, and Connection Point Services (CPS). To enable clients to use quarantine mode, you must configure a Connection Manager profile using CMAK. The profile contains the following components:

A post-connect action that runs a network policy requirements script This functionality is configured when the CM profile is created with CMAK. A network policy requirements script This script performs validation checks on the remote-access client computer to verify that it conforms to network policies. It can be a custom executable file or a simple command file (also known as a batch file). When the script has run successfully and the connecting computer has satisfied all the network policy requirements (as verified by the script), the script runs a notification component (an executable) with the appropriate parameters.

If the script does not run successfully, you should consider using the script to display information to the remote-access user that directs them to a quarantine resource, such as an internal or external Web page, that describes how to install the components that are required for network policy compliance.

A notification component The notification component sends a message that indicates a successful execution of the script to the quarantine-compatible remoteaccess server. You can use your own notification component or you can use Rqc.exe, which is provided with the Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit.

To configure the quarantine CM profile, run the Connection Manager Administration Kit Wizard. Only two parts of the configuration process are specific to creating a quarantine CM profile:

Define a custom action You can use the Connection Manager Administration Kit Wizard to define a custom action. This action can occur before the client connects, or at any stage during or after the connection. To create a profile that will enable quarantine control, you must configure a custom action that will run the quarantine requirements script after the client connects. Add the notification component as an additional file As part of the CM profile, you can install additional files on the client computer. To enable a quarantine profile, you need to add the Rqc.exe or a custom notification component to the profile.
