You can use the MS-Quarantine-IPFilter attribute to configure input and output packet filters to allow the client computer to connect using TCP Port 7250 (for the notification component to connect to the RADIUS server) and other traffic needed to access the quarantine resources. This includes filters that allow the remote-access client to access name resolution servers (such as DNS servers), file shares, or Web sites.

Tip In most cases, you should use ISA Server policies when enabling VPN quarantine control. With RADIUS policies, you are limited to using packet filters to restrict access to the internal network while enabling access to the resources that the client requires in order to clear quarantine. If you use ISA Server policies, you can configure any access or publishing rule with the Quarantined VPN Clients network as the source address.

The final step in configuring quarantine control for VPN clients is to configure the access rules for the Quarantined VPN Clients network to access required resources on other networks. To allow access to a resource, create an access rule with the Quarantined VPN Clients network as the source and the server to which access is required as the destination. To configure this rule, create a computer rule element for each server, so that it can be used in access rules. Alternatively, you can create a computer set containing all the computers to which the quarantined clients require access, and create an access rule with the Quarantined VPN Clients network as the source and the computer set as the destination. The following are examples of the types of access you may want to allow the Quarantined VPN Clients network:

Allow queries to LDAP servers on the internal network. Allow traffic to domain controllers or RADIUS servers. Allow quarantined VPN clients to issue DNS queries to DNS servers. Allow quarantined VPN clients to access WINS servers. Allow quarantined VPN clients to use Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) to access internal Web servers. Use this option if you have a Web page that explains how the user can configure his or her computer so that it meets the quarantine security requirements, or if the Web page contains any other resource that can be used to configure the quarantined VPN client. Allow quarantined VPN clients to use NetBIOS over TCP/IP using destination TCP Port 139 to enable access to file shares on the internal network. Use this option to enable client access to a share that contains resources that can be used to configure the quarantined VPN client.

Another option is to design your network so that all the servers to which access is required are on a subnet, and define a Subnet rule element for use in the access rule. In this configuration, you may enable access using all protocols to the specific subnet, or limit access to only the required protocols.

In this practice, you will configure ISA Server to enable VPN quarantine control. For testing purposes, you will use a simple script that will check for the existence of a specific file on the client computer and grant access to the network if the file exists. You will then use Configurerqsforisa.vbs to configure ISA Server to support quarantine control and then you will enable quarantine control. You will then create a Connection Manager profile and distribute it to the VPN remote-access clients. Finally, you will configure access rules to enable access for the Quarantined VPN Clients network.
