When you click each registered alert, the bottom of the Alerts view provides Alert Information, which contains a detailed description of the selected alert.
How to Configure Alerts
ISA Server includes a large number of predefined alerts. You can modify the existing alert definitions by defining events that will trigger the alert, and by defining the actions when the alert is triggered. You can also create new alert definitions.
What Are Alert Definitions
An alert definition lists the specific actions or notifications that occur when an event takes place on the ISA Server computer. During ISA Server installation, alert definitions are defined for a variety of built-in general events. Several of these events allow you to define a more specific alert by configuring conditions related to the event. For example, ISA Server includes the preconfigured Intrusion Detected event. The associated alert is configured to report on any intrusion detected. You may want to redefine this

general alert to provide additional specific notifications related to all port-scan attacks, ping-of-death attacks, or other conditions.
What Are Alert Events and Conditions
Alert events define actions that occur on the computer running ISA Server that can raise alerts. Alert conditions are additional criteria applied by ISA Server when alert events happen. For example, DNS intrusion is an alert event. Additional conditions that you can apply to the alert event include raising an alert when any DNS intrusion attempt is detected, or raising an alert only when specific DNS intrusion attempts are detected. You can also modify the event trigger-threshold limits. The trigger threshold refers to how many times the event should occur before the alert is triggered and how long to wait before issuing the alert again.
Configuring Alert Events and Conditions
To configure alert events and conditions, complete the following steps: 1. In ISA Server Management Console, click Monitoring and then click the Alerts view. 2. In the Task pane, click Configure Alert Definitions. The Alert Definitions dialog box, shown in Figure 11-4, displays all the alert definitions.

Alert Event Configuration Options
Choose This Option To Configure the event that is to be associated with the selected Alert definition. The Description text box explains what each event refers to. Configure specific conditions for events that have additional conditions available. Specify how many times the event should occur before the alert is triggered.
Event Options Event
Additional Condition Alert Action Trigger Threshold/ Number Of Occurrences
Alert Action Trigger Threshold/ Specify how many times per second an event should occur Number Of Events Per Second before the alert is triggered. Immediately Specify that a subsequent alert is sent immediately when a threshold is met after the initial alert is triggered.
Only If The Alert Was Manually Specify that a subsequent alert is sent when a threshold is met Reset and the initial alert was manually reset. If Time Since Last Execution Is More Than Specify that a subsequent alert is sent when a threshold is met after a specified amount of time.
