ISA Server Enterprise Edition Deployment Scenarios
You can deploy ISA Server 2004, Enterprise Edition, in the same scenarios as you can deploy ISA Server, Standard Edition. If you only need to deploy one ISA Server computer and want to use Enterprise Edition, you can deploy Configuration Storage server and the ISA Server services on the same computer and configure an array that contains only one server. However, there are some scenarios in which ISA Server, Enterprise Edition, offers maximum benefit.
Multiple ISA Server Computers in Identical Roles
One of the deployment scenarios in which Enterprise Edition offers the most benefit is where you require multiple ISA Server computers that will perform identical roles. For example, a large organization with a very fast Internet connection might require multiple ISA Server computers to provide Internet access and to publish internal resources. In this scenario, Enterprise Edition offers the following benefits:
Centralized management using arrays Because you are deploying multiple ISA Server computers in the same role, you can create an array for each role, and configure the array policies. Then you can add as many ISA Server computers as required for that array.

NLB If the ISA Server computers are being used to provide access to Internet resources or to publish internal resources to the Internet, you can take advantage of the load balancing and redundancy provided by NLB. CARP If the ISA Server computers are being used to provide access to Internet resources and you require caching, you can take advantage of the caching scalability provided by CARP. Centralized monitoring You can monitor multiple ISA Server Enterprise Edition computers using a single ISA Server Management Console workstation.
Tip You can use network templates to configure ISA Server, Enterprise Edition; however, you will configure the network template at the array level and the settings will be applied to all array members.
Workgroup Scenario
A workgroup is a group of computers that do not share a common directory. Although workgroups do not offer the centralized user accounts and authentication offered by domains, you may choose to deploy your ISA Server computers in a workgroup rather than a domain for additional security. In this scenario, even if an attacker gains access to the ISA Server computer, the attacker will not have access to any domain accounts. Moreover, workgroup computers do not need to connect to domain controllers, so you can reduce the number of system policy rules and access rules that need to be enabled. ISA Server, Enterprise Edition, supports three different domain and workgroup configurations:
The installation of an ISA Server array in a workgroup, where the Configuration Storage server is a member of a domain but the ISA Server computers are not. In this scenario, you can deploy multiple Configuration Storage servers and implement certificate authentication between the Configuration Storage servers and the ISA Server computers. The installation of both the Configuration Storage server and the ISA Server computers in a workgroup, creating an isolated enterprise. In this scenario, you can only deploy a single Configuration Storage server for the enterprise, and will need to implement certificate authentication between the Configuration Storage servers and the ISA Server computers. A mixed installation of multiple ISA Server computer arrays, where the Configuration Storage server is a member of a domain, and some of the ISA Server computers are also domain members, but some ISA Server computers are not. In this scenario, you can create one or more arrays that include ISA Server computers that
