1. You are designing a DHCP strategy for a small network composed of three subnets. Subnets A, B, and C are connected to one router that is RFC-1542 compliant. Subnet B, the largest subnet containing the most DHCP clients, also houses the DHCP Server. The other two subnets do not have a DHCP server on them. How many DHCP Relay Agents would you need for all workstations to be able to receive an IP address from the DHCP Server
None. The IP router is RFC-1542 compliant, which means the router is configured as a DHCP relay agent. Another way to say this is that the router is BOOTP compliant.
2. If you choose to use only one DHCP Server in a routed network, what are some of the things you should consider
You should consider either using DHCP relay agents for the various subnets that will not contain the DHCP server, or ensuring that the routers on the network are RFC-1542 compliant. You should also be concerned whether or not the server has the hardware requirements to support its users.
3. List three factors you might want to consider when choosing the computer that will run the DHCP service.
The three factors to consider are multiple CPUs, high-performance hard drives, and multiple NICs.

1. What private IP address class would you use for this network infrastructure How many subnets would be required in the Chicago offices
The Class A and Class B private IP addresses would allow you to create the required number of subnets and host IDs. Chicago needs 1,100 hosts, which breaks down to four subnets with 30s0 host addresses for each. Remember, the IT manager does not want more than 300 hosts per subnet. If you used 10.0.0.0/16 as your IP address/mask, you could create 256 subnets, each having approximately 65,000 host computers. A 10.0.0.0/24 would allow for the creation of up to 65,536 subnets, each containing 254 host addresses. If you used the Class B private address 172.16.0.1/24, you could create 256 subnets with each subnet having 254 host IDs. This would leave plenty of room for growth.
2. How could you design this network so that external users could access the Web server while minimizing the risk of an attack on your company s internal network
A perimeter network should be created that houses the Web server and e-mail servers.
3. If a perimeter network was created for the scenario described above, what network components could you use to protect both the perimeter network and the company s internal network
You could place a firewall between the Internet and the perimeter network, as well as a firewall in front of your company s internal network. In this way, an intruder would have to get through two firewalls before reaching your network. Also, an IDS could be placed outside the perimeter network and the company s internal network, which would warn of any intrusions to either system.
