Lesson 2: Configuring Client Connectivity
Lesson 2: Configuring Client Connectivity
In this lesson, you will learn how to set policies to manage mobile devices that many modern workers use to keep up with office communication. You will also learn how to configure services that help clients interact with your Exchange Server 2007 infrastructure. These services can allow for Outlook 2007 to be automatically configured with a minimal amount of user input. The lesson also examines how to configure protocols such as Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3) and Internet Message Access Protocol version 4 (IMAP4), which allow client software to retrieve mail from mailbox servers through Client Access servers.
After this lesson, you will be able to:
Configure mobile device policies. Configure the Availability service. Configure Autodiscover. Configure Client Access protocols.
Estimated lesson time: 40 minutes
Configuring Mobile Device Policies
Exchange ActiveSync mailbox policies, also known as mobile device policies, govern how mobile devices interact with Exchange Server 2007. By default, Exchange ActiveSync is enabled for all users. Exchange ActiveSync mailbox policies allow you to do the following:
Ensure that mobile device users use passwords. Ensure a minimum password length and complexity. Configure user data in a device to be wiped after a number of successive incorrect passwords are entered. Allow users to recover device passwords using Outlook Web Access (OWA). Ensure that all user data stored on the device is encrypted. Limit the size of attachments that can be downloaded to the device. Allow or restrict access to Windows file or SharePoint servers. Unlike the OWA policy that allows you to grant access to specific servers, this is a blanket ban or allow on all servers.
