view the Properties for Data Sources
In this final exercise of this lesson, you will walk through the options and configurations available for reporting data sources.
1. 2.
If necessary, open Internet Explorer, and then navigate to http://localhost/Reports. Click the AdventureWorks 2008 Sample Reports folder link. (This assumes that the AdventureWorks 2008 sample reports have been deployed as specified in this chapter s prerequisites.) Click the Product Catalog 2008 report link, and then click the Properties tab. In the list of links on the left, click the Data Sources link. Notice that a report can refer to either a shared data source or a custom data source. This report refers to the data source in the /Data Sources/AdventureWorks2008 element of the report object hierarchy. You can change the shared data source associated with a given report by clicking the Browse button and then selecting the new data source. This greatly increases your flexibility to make changes to reports even after they are deployed. Click the Home link in the upper-left corner of the screen. Click the Data Sources folder link. Click the AdventureWorks2008 data source link. This data source uses the Windows Integrated Security option. Select the Credentials Supplied By The User Running The Report option. Select the Use As Windows Credentials When Connecting To The Data Source check box, and then click Apply. Click the Dependent Items tab. On this tab, you can see the list of reports that depend on this shared data source. Click the Product Catalog report link. Notice that the report is requesting credentials. In the Log In Name box, type nancy, and in the Password box, type pass@word1. Click View Report, and notice that Reporting Services notifies you that the logon operation failed. Click the blue Change Credentials link. In the Log In Name box, type your Windows user account name, and then type your Windows password in the Password box. Click View Report. Notice that the report is generated this time. Click the Home link in the upper-left corner of the screen. Click the Data Sources folder link. Click the AdventureWorks2008 data source link.
