Below the Properties window, in the lower right corner of the figure, you can see the Field List window. Unlike the field list for form or report design that shows the fields from the defined record source, this window in a data access page shows you the connected database for the page and all the available tables and queries in that database. When you create a brand new page in Design view, you can expand the lists by clicking the plus signs. You can then select fields from tables or queries and drag and drop them into the data source control.

Part 1: Part Title
Microsoft Office Access 2003 Inside Out to another source or change connection properties. For more information on changing connection properties, see Updating Data Access Page Links and Connections on page 1081. Just to the left of the Field List window, you can see the Data Outline window. This window shows you the tables, queries, and fields that the data source control is prepared to display. It also shows you any grouping levels that you have defined for the page. In some ways, the Data Outline window is more similar to the field list in form and report design because it lists the actual fields available for display on the page. However, you cannot add fields from this list to the data access page. Remember, I warned you earlier that some design elements will seem very familiar, but others are very different from what you ve learned for forms and reports. Finally, near the left edge of the figure, you can see the toolbox that shows you all the controls that you can add to your page design. As you ll learn later, some controls such as the label and text box controls are equivalent to those you ll find in form and report design. But others such as the Bound Span, Scrolling Text, and Expand buttons are unique to data access pages. To view the properties for any element on the page, open the Properties window (if it isn t open already) by clicking the Properties button on the toolbar and then click the element. When the element is one that displays data (such as a text box), select the Data tab or the All tab in the Properties window to verify the field that the element displays. Like controls in forms and reports, the ControlSource property defines the bound field or other data (such as an expression) to be displayed in the selected design element. In Figure 27-16, for example, you can see that the EmployeeNumber field provides the data for the selected EmployeeNumber text box. If you want to see the properties for the page itself, open the Properties window, and click the data access page window s title bar. You can also choose Select Page from the Edit menu. Figure 27-17 shows the page properties for the Employees sample page that you created with the wizard.
