Part 7: After Completing Your Application
Microsoft Office Access 2003 Inside Out The wizard can upsize the following equivalent query:

SELECT tblContacts.FirstName, tblContacts.LastName FROM tblContacts WHERE tblContacts.ContactID IN (SELECT ContactID FROM tblContactProducts WHERE tblContactProducts.DateSold > #03/15/2003#)
Crosstab queries.

These queries have no SQL Server equivalent. The only way to duplicate the functionality of a crosstab query is to write a complicated stored procedure. Unfortunately, the Upsizing Wizard does not do this for you. These queries are only used in Access desktop databases (.mdb) to interface directly with SQL Server tables. They are unnecessary in an Access project, and you should delete these queries before you run the wizard. The wizard can upsize INSERT INTO (make table) queries. You should delete all other DDL queries. The wizard attempts to upsize all parameter queries. When the parameter is a reference to a control on a form (as in [Forms]![frmFilterChoicesForCustomer]![DateTextBox]), the wizard changes the parameter name to one that is compatible with SQL Server, but the server won t be able to resolve the parameter name to an open form in your project file. Also, SQL Server uses only the first 30 characters to identify unique parameter names, so references to forms or controls that have long names might be converted to a name that is not unique. You should consider removing any reference to a built-in function on the Criteria or Or lines in a query design so that the wizard will upsize the query. You can replace the function call with an equivalent SQL Server function after you upsize. The wizard attempts to convert queries that reference functions in the SELECT clause (the field list). However, it will not convert queries that use functions that are not in the list shown earlier in Table 29-1 on page 1139. If you want the wizard to convert queries that use functions that cannot be converted, you should remove the function reference from the query before running the wizard. You can replace the function call with an equivalent SQL Server function after you upsize. If your query calls a custom Visual Basic function that you created, you can replace the function with a custom stored procedure after you upsize.
SQL pass-through queries.
SQL Data Definition Language (DDL) queries.
Parameter queries that reference form controls.
Queries that use a built-in function in the WHERE clause.
Queries that use a function that cannot be converted.
Changing Forms and Reports
When you upsize to an Access project, the wizard copies your existing forms and reports directly into your project file. The wizard examines the Record Source property of forms and reports and the Row Source property of combo boxes and list boxes and changes some of them in an attempt to make the upsize process more successful. Forms and reports in an Access project support all the same features as forms and reports in an Access desktop 1142
Part 7: After Completing Your Application
Upsizing a Desktop Application to a Project database. The most likely cause of problems in using upsized forms and reports is in the record source of a form or report or the row source of a combo box or list box. To make the upsizing process smoother, set the record source of your forms and reports and the row source of your combo boxes and list boxes to saved queries whenever possible instead of using an SQL statement. This practice makes it easier to track down problems after the upsize. When all your forms, reports, combo boxes, and list boxes reference saved queries, fixing any upsize problems with the queries will most likely fix problems with all your forms and reports. When you use SQL statements in Record Source or Row Source properties, the Upsizing Wizard won t report any problems with these queries. Be aware of any SQL statement or query in your forms and reports that uses parameters because you ll need to modify the form or report or the upsized query after the wizard finishes.
