In this practice, you will examine business requirements and offer possible technical solutions. In Table 7-16, examine the business requirements or statements made by a member of Wingtip Toys management. For each statement, answer the question: What technical solution will be best in this case Consider each statement separately, not as part of the same scenario. If there is more than one technical solution, list them. If there is no technical solution, simply enter N/A to indicate that there is nothing relevant to

Design Activity: Designing Secure Communications
In this activity, you must use what you ve learned in all five lessons and apply it to a real-world situation. Read the scenario, and then complete the exercises that follow. You can find answers for the exercises in the Questions and Answers section at the end of this chapter.
Scenario
You have been hired as the tunnel administrator for Humongous Insurance and have been tasked with completing the design and implementation of the Humongous Insur ance extranet. You have the following information to work with.
Company Background
Humongous Insurance provides health insurance coverage for three million individuals in the United States. Health insurance sales and claims support is provided by an agency location in every state. These 50 agencies operate independently but follow guidelines created by central offices in Topeka, Kansas. Each agency manages its own staff of salespeople.
Design Activity: Designing Secure Communications
7-57
Existing Environment
Data centers for each agency are managed by the agency. Each data center includes Windows Server 2003 computers, Windows 2000 computers, and a variety of other operating systems. (Some data centers include UNIX systems, AS 4000, IBM mainframes, or all of these.) Employees at the agency headquarters are using Windows XP Professional. Salespeople and telecommuting employees have a variety of desktop and laptop systems running Windows 98 second edition, Windows 2000 Professional, and Windows XP Professional.
Interviews
Following is a list of company personnel interviewed and their statements:
Data Center Manager in New Orleans, LA We are having trouble getting upto-date information from headquarters. Currently, we have a dial-up connection that is often dropped without warning. It would be nice to be able to communi cate also with the other state agencies. Data Center Manager in Topeka, KS We are looking forward to a more robust and secure communications infrastructure. HIPAA Officer in Topeka, KS As you know, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requires that we protect the health information of our subscribers. We are under strict regulation, and any digital communication comes directly under my approval.
Business Requirements
The business requirements are as follows: 1. All communications between the sites must be kept confidential. 2. Only authorized employees are allowed to use the connection to any location using their computer. 3. Each state agency should have protected communications with headquarters and with the other sites in its region.
Technical Requirements
The technical requirements are as follows: 1. Only authorized computers can be used to connect between the sites. 2. Communications from employees not located at a site must be protected with smart cards. 3. Employees using remote access servers must use computers that meet strict config uration requirements, including the use of antivirus products and a personal firewall.
