User Account Dial-in and Remote Access Policies Are Evaluated W h e n W i n d o w s authentication is selected (that is, when no IAS server is used) or if the IAS Ignore-UserDialin-Properties attribute is set to false, the following process is used to evaluate a connection attempt. The dial-in property page allows specification by the user (the page is set to Allow or Deny) or by Remote Access Policy. If the dial-in property page specifies access by user (as shown in Figure 10-6), the following events occur:

Exam Tip If all remote access policy conditions are not met by the connection attempt, the next remote access policy is evaluated. Remote access policy profile constraints and user account dial-in properties are evaluated only if remote access policy conditions are met.

1. The connection attempt is compared to the first remote access policy conditions. By default, a remote access policy permits connection at any time of day or on any day of the week. (If no remote access policies exist, the connection is rejected.) 2. If the connection attempt meets the remote access policy conditions, the value of the Ignore-User-Dialin-Properties attribute (which is set in the profile of the policy) is checked. For this procedure, it is set to false. a. The remote access setting of the user account is checked. b. If the user account setting is Grant, then continue. The remote access policy profile connection settings and the user account settings are applied. If the connection settings do not match, the connection is rejected; if they match, the connection is accepted. c. If the user account setting is Deny, the connection attempt is rejected. d. If the user account setting is neither Allow nor Deny, it is set to Control Access Through Remote Access Policy. The remote access permission setting of the policy is checked. If it is Deny, the connection is rejected. If it is allow, then continue.

e. If the connection settings in the user account and the policy profile all match, the connection is allowed. The user account dial-in property page and the remote access policy profile constraints are evaluated. f. If the connection settings in the user account and the policy profile do not all match, the connection is rejected. 3. If the connection attempt does not match all of a remote access policy s condi tions, the next remote access policy is evaluated. 4. If no remote access policy matches the connection attempt, the connection attempt is rejected. 5. If the connection is allowed, it is constrained by the profile setting in the remote access policy. User Account Dial-in Is Not Evaluated When RADIUS authentication is selected (an IAS server will be used) and the IAS Ignore-User-Dialin-Properties attribute is set to true, the following process is used to evaluate a connection attempt. 1. The connection attempt is compared to the first remote access policy s conditions. By default, a remote access policy permits connection at any time of day or on any day of the week. (If no remote access policies exist, the connection is rejected.) 2.
