work on sensitive data that requires special handling. She is especially worried about that data being backed up and secured. All client computers have P: drive mappings that are supposed to be used for storing files. However, many employees don t really understand drive mappings. They often store files in their My Documents folder and then copy them over to the P: drive. This is also an issue because many employees forget to copy their files to the server until something (such as a data loss) occurs. Given the concerns of Lucerne Publishing as outlined above, answer the following questions: 1. How would you address Linda s concern that some employees don t understand drive mappings and others forget to store their data on the server

Troubleshooting Lab
You are a network administrator for Contoso Pharmaceuticals. You receive a call from another network administrator, John Evans, about a problem with desktop redirection. He says that he created a desktop redirection GPO for a couple of users in an OU named RedirectDesktop. He configured the folder so that both users would have the same desktop and gave them only Read, Execute, and List Folder Contents permissions to that folder. Recently, John decided that he no longer wanted to control these users desktops in that way. However, when he tried to make the policy redirect their desktops back to their local computers, it didn t work. He even deleted the policy, but the users desktops are still being redirected to the shared folder. He doesn t know what else to do and needs your help. To see how this happened, you must create the problem using the following steps: 1. Log on to Server1 using the domain administrator user name and password. 2. Create a folder on the desktop named Desktops and share it as Desktops. Config ure the security permissions of this folder so that Authenticated Users have Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, and Read permission. 3. Add a couple of new text documents to this folder. 4. Create a first-level OU named DesktopRedirect. 5. Inside the DesktopRedirect OU, create two user accounts: DesktopUser1 and DesktopUser2. Set their passwords as password . Clear the User Must Change Password At Next Logon box. Add both users to the Server Operators group. This will allow them to log on locally to the domain controllers.
Security Alert In a real-world environment, use a complex password. Microsoft recom mends mixing uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols (for example, Lp6*g9f2).
6. In the Active Directory Users And Computers console, right-click the DesktopRedirect OU and click Properties. 7. In the DesktopRedirect Properties dialog box, click the Group Policy tab. Click New. Enter the name DesktopRedirectGPO for the new policy, and press Enter. Click Edit. 8. In the Group Policy Object Editor console, expand the following objects: User Configuration, Windows Settings, Folder Redirection.

9. Right-click the Desktop object and click Properties. The Desktop Properties dialog box opens. 10. Configure the Setting selection to read: Basic Redirect Everyone s Folder To The Same Location. Additional setting boxes appear below. 11. Configure the Target folder location selection box to read: Redirect To The Follow ing Location. 12. Type \\server1\desktops in the Root Path text box. 13. Click the Settings tab. Clear the Grant The User Exclusive Rights To Desktop check box. Also, clear the Move The Contents Of Desktop To The New Location check box. Don t change the Policy Removal option. 14. Click OK. Close the Group Policy Object Editor console. Close the DesktopRedi rect Properties dialog box. 15. Run the Repadmin /syncall command to ensure that the domain policies are synchro nized as soon as possible. Wait two minutes before you proceed with the next step. 16. Log off and log on as DesktopUser1. Do you see the text documents that you added to the shared Desktops folder Can you create new objects on the desktop
The text documents that were added to the Desktops folder will be visible if the desktop was redirected. The user should not be able to create new files on the Desktop because permis sions were set for only Read, Execute, and List Folder Contents.
17. Log on to Server2 as DesktopUser2. Do you see the text documents that you added to the shared Desktops folder Can you create new objects on the desktop
Again, the text documents that were added to the Desktops folder will be visible if the desktop was redirected. The user should not be able to create new files on the Desktop because permissions were set for only Read, Execute, and List Folder Contents.
18. Log off DesktopUser1 and DesktopUser2. 19. Log on to Server1 using the domain administrator user name and password. 20. Open the DesktopRedirectGPO in the Group Policy Object Editor (using the steps described previously). 21. Open the Desktop Properties dialog box as described previously (under User Configuration, Windows Settings, Folder Redirection, Desktop). 22. Click the Settings tab on the Desktop Properties dialog box. 23. In the Policy Removal section, select Redirect The Folders Back To The Local User Profile Location When Policy Is Removed. Click OK. Close the Group Policy Object Editor. Click OK on the DesktopRedirect Properties dialog box.
