Using AutoMovie to Generate Movies Automatically
The Tools, AutoMovie command, with which Windows Movie Maker concocts a project automatically from the contents of the current Collections folder, might seem more like a gimmick than a useful feature. But if you have a set of clips that tell a coherent story, it s Part 5: Mastering Digital Media
Microsoft Windows XP Inside Out, Second Edition worth letting AutoMovie have a run at your stuff, just to see what it will come up with. Granted, you re not likely to render the result without modification. But perhaps you ll find it a useful starting point that you can edit into something satisfactory. At the very least it will give you ideas. To use AutoMovie, start by creating a Collections folder with all the video clips that you want your movie to include. (Don t worry about sound at this point.) Then choose Tools, AutoMovie. The following screen will appear: 22
Choose one of the five available movie styles. Click the links at the bottom of the window to specify title text and an audio file for background music (AutoMovie will incorporate the music into your Audio/Music track without creating a clip from it something you can t do on your own!), and then click Done, Edit Movie. Windows Movie Maker will take a few minutes to analyze your audio and video, and then present its work on the timeline and storyboard. g22dx12
Rendering Your Project into a Movie
With your project fully assembled on the timeline and storyboard, it s time to let Windows Movie Maker make a movie. Choose File, Save Movie File to summon the Save Movie Wizard, shown in Figure 22-12. The wizard s first screen, Movie Location, asks you to choose a destination for your finished movie.
