The wizard s third destination option lets you save your movie as an e-mail attachment. Because many mail systems impose size limits on message attachments, Windows Movie Maker, by default, will not let you create a movie larger than 1 MB. You can increase that threshold in 1 MB increments to as much as 10 MB; to do this, choose Tools, Options, click the Advanced tab, and adjust the Maximum File Size For Sending A Movie As An Attachment In An E-Mail Message box. When you choose E-Mail on the Movie Location screen and click Next, Windows Movie Maker immediately begins rendering your project without asking for any quality decisions on your part. When it finishes rendering, it presents you with a message window in your default e-mail program, with the attachment in place.

If you have an account with a video hosting provider on the Internet, such as Neptune Mediashare (http://www.neptune.com), you can use the Save Movie Wizard s fourth destination option to post your movie directly to that Web host. You can use this service as a way of sharing your movies with selected friends and colleagues. If you don t have such an account, stepping through this option in the Save Movie Wizard (while connected to the Internet) will get you a list of service providers available in your part of the world. (Windows Movie Maker determines where you are by how you ve configured Regional And Language Options in Control Panel before downloading service provider information.) You can sign up for an account and post your first movie without leaving the wizard. When you render to the Web, the wizard presents essentially the same list of quality options that you have for saving locally. But the options that are defined by bandwidth appear at the top of the Movie Setting screen. You should make your choice according to your expectations about how viewers will connect with your Web host.

The Save Movie Wizard s last destination option returns your movie to a DV camera. Your camera must be turned on, set to its playback mode, and connected to an IEEE 1394 port. Put a fresh tape in the camera, click Next, and Windows Movie Maker does the rest. This option preserves your movie at the maximum possible quality. (Ideally, you want to use this with footage that you ve captured at maximum quality, of course.) After you ve rendered the movie back to DV tape, you can preserve it, transfer it to another medium, or even recapture it in Windows Movie Maker for further editing as you think of ways to improve it.

Resources for Further Learning
Making a movie is easy. Making a good movie is something else. This chapter has carefully steered clear of aesthetic issues. For more on matters of movie-making technique and a wealth of ideas about how to put Windows Movie Maker to work, see Microsoft Windows Movie Maker 2: Do Amazing Things!, by John Buechler (Microsoft Press, 2004). Buechler also maintains a valuable Web site at http://www.eicsoftware.com/PapaJohn/MM2/MM2.html. You can also find a wealth of information about Windows Movie Maker on various Microsoft sites. Start with the Windows Movie Maker home page, at http://www.microsoft.com/ windowsxp/using/moviemaker/default.mspx. Here you can access links to video-oriented newsgroups, troubleshooting, and how-to articles. Microsoft occasionally posts useful and free downloads for Windows Movie Maker as well, so it s a good idea to drop in once in a while and see what s new.
