Remote Access Options In the Server box, type the name of the remote computer you want to view; it doesn t have to be the same computer as the Web server. In the Size box, select a screen size. (If you select Full Screen, Internet Explorer uses the screen resolution of the client computer; otherwise, the remote desktop appears in a resizable window.) Then click Connect. The first time you connect from a client computer, Windows displays a security warning about an ActiveX control that you must download. After you click Yes to accept the download, the remote desktop logon dialog box appears just as it does when you use the Remote Desktop Connection program. After you provide your user name and password, the desktop appears in your Internet Explorer window, as shown in Figure 26-9, and you can interact with it exactly as if you were at the remote computer. Tip Bookmark the remote desktop After you get to the remote desktop, save it as a favorite in Internet Explorer. (Open the Favorites menu and choose Add To Favorites.) That way, you can bypass the Remote Desktop Web Connection screen next time. But this method has other advantages: The server name, screen size, and user name (if you select Send Logon Information For This Connection and specify a user name before clicking Connect) are encapsulated in the stored URL so you needn t enter this information again.

Working with Different Screen Resolutions
Whether you connect to a remote computer using Remote Desktop Connection or Remote Desktop Web Connection, by default, the remote computer takes over your entire screen. It uses the resolution of the client computer, regardless of the resolution set on the remote computer. At the top of the screen, a small title bar appears, as shown in Figure 26-4 on page 958. This title bar lets you switch between your own desktop and the remote desktop. Table 26-1 explains each button on the title bar.
Table 26-1.
Remote Desktop Connection Full-Screen Title Bar
Description
The Pushpin button locks the title bar in place. If you click the pushpin, the title bar disappears completely, retracting into the top of the screen. To make the title bar reappear, move the mouse pointer to the top edge of the screen. To keep the title bar visible, click the pushpin again. The Minimize button reduces the remote desktop to a taskbar button on your own desktop.

The Restore button displays the remote desktop in a resizable window on your own desktop. To return to full-screen view, click the window s Maximize button. The Close button disconnects the remote computer (but does not log you off the remote computer) and closes Remote Desktop Connection. You can pick up where you left off by reopening Remote Desktop Connection and reconnecting or by logging on locally at the remote computer.

Tip Hide the title bar If you seldom use the Remote Desktop Connection title bar and it gets in your way, you can hide it by clicking the Pushpin button. (To make it visible again, bump the top of the screen with the mouse pointer.) If you rarely use the title bar, you can prevent it from showing up at all. Before you connect, click the Options button in the Remote Desktop Connection dialog box. Click the Display tab, and then clear the Display The Connection Bar When In Full Screen Mode check box. You might prefer to not use your full screen for the remote desktop. You set this along with a number of other options before you connect to the remote computer. After you start Remote Desktop Connection, click the Options button to expand the dialog box. Then click the Display tab, which is shown in Figure 26-10. You can set the screen resolution to any size, from 640 480 up to the current resolution of the client computer (not the remote computer), or you can set it to full screen by moving the slider all the way to the right.
