Includes improved discovery search functionality such as being able to view the size of a search before adding it to the discovery search mailbox. Archive mailboxes can be in any database in the organization. You can move the archive mailboxes to a desired database. Move archive mailboxes between Exchange organizations and cross-premises, such as Exchange Online. Outlook 2007 also supports archive mailboxes (requires Outlook 2007 security update released in Q3/2010).

Managed Folders
De-emphasized in Exchange Server 2010 and only managed through EMS in SP1 (not available in EMC in SP1). You can use the EMC GUI to configure and manage retention polices and retention tags; in RTM, you could only manage these via Windows PowerShell. IRM-enabled Active Sync SP1 Builds IRM into ActiveSync, allowing non-Windows Mobile EAS clients to protect and consume IRM-protected content. RMS support for Web-ready document view SP1 provides the ability to access attachments that are IRM-protected using Web Ready Document Viewing. 9 More OVA configuration settings are available in ECP, such as choice of ordering. Calls Name Display support if your PBX provides caller names to UM. UM users can belong to two UM Dial Plans. Voicemail Preview includes more languages such as European Spanish and was increased in accuracy. New UM Troubleshooting Tool is based on the TestExchangeUMCallFlow cmdlet to test UM connectivity. UM Reporting includes Call Statistics and User Call Logs reports that no longer require SCOM 2007 but are accessible from ECP. Mailbox move from Exchange 2007 or cross-premises includes UM Dial Plan move. Instant messaging integration is no longer configured in the web.config file but uses the Set-OwaVirtualDirectory cmdlet. OWA now supports alerts such as instant messaging invites. 10 11

Loadgen. Capacity Planning and Performance Reporting Toolkit. EPA for 2010. 14 Improvement such as converting mailboxes to/from linked mailbox, archive, cross-forest support, and so on. 15 All software requirements can be installed automatically. Support to implement split permissions. 16 Manage Active Sync devices using ECP. Naming Policy for group naming restrictions Manage Security Groups using ECP. Hide Groups from GAL using ECP. Define a default OU for group creation. Ability to configure Hierarchical Address Books (HABs). Split permissions between Domain administrators and Exchange administrators so an Exchange admin is not able to grant itself Domain Admin rights. Support for scoping based on database level. Manage RBAC Roles Groups and User Roles with ECP. Uses an internal PST writer library and thus doesn t require Outlook to be installed on any Exchange server as the Export-Mailbox cmdlet required. Follows the asynchronous model of mailbox moves: you place a request and it will be processed by MRS that writes a PST file. Replaces the Export-Mailbox cmdlet.

Exchange 2010 Editions and Licensing
An area that is often underestimated but also important when planning your Exchange server deployments is which editions of Exchange Server 2010 you will use and what type of licenses you will buy for your users. This topic is especially important because planning thoroughly can save you money. The most common license types are Server Editions and Client Access Licenses (CALs). However, in Exchange 2010 you can also purchase an Exchange 2010 External Connector License, which allows an unlimited number of clients to access an Exchange server in scenarios where the number of CALs is uncertain. This type is limited to non-employees such as partners or suppliers. You can access more information about licensing for Exchange Server 2010 (on-premises) at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/ LinkId=181503.
