You might want to customize your site to provide a less generic experience for your users. You can customize the site title and description, set a theme, customize site content, and custom ize the Windows SharePoint Services site home page. To customize the site title and description, click Site Settings at the top of the Windows SharePoint Services site. Click Change Site Title And Description in the Customization sec tion of the Site Settings page. Set the title and description for the site in the appropriate boxes and click OK to save your changes. To customize the theme of your site, click Apply Theme To Site in the Customization section of the Site Settings page to open the Apply Theme To Web Site page. A theme is a collection of backgrounds, colors, and graphics that customizes the look and feel of your site. Select a theme from the list provided and look at the preview on the left. Once you find a theme you like, click Apply to apply the theme to the site.

Certain content is included in the site by default, such as Contacts, Events, and Links, but content customiza tion allows you to customize the existing content and add new content to the site. Click one of the Customize links for existing content to customize that specific item. Clicking Customize Announcements results in the Customize Announcements page shown in Figure 39-22. This page allows you to set general options for the content by clicking Change General Settings, saving the settings as a template, changing permissions, or deleting the content. In addition, you can add, remove, and modify the columns associated with the content and add, remove, or edit the views associated with the content. The columns outline the fields available for data entry for the content and views allow you to create filtered versions of the content that are easily accessible.

If you click Create New Content on the Modify Site Content page you are taken to the Create Page page shown in Figure 39-23. This page allows you to create a new type of custom content for your site. 1003

Create Page allows you to create totally custom content pages for your site.
On the Create Page page, select the type of content you want to add to your site. A number of predefined content types are listed, such as document and picture libraries and lists. You can also create totally custom blank lists, import lists from spreadsheets, and create custom Web pages that are not content driven like most Windows SharePoint Services pages. Once you select the type of content to add, the steps differ based on the content type you selected. In most cases you assign a name and description for the content and decide whether or not you want the content shown on the Quick Launch bar as shown in Figure 39-24. You then fill in any other required information and click Create. The new content is added to your site.
