Don t Discard Comments by Mistake. If you remove comments from a Web site during a publishing operation and then open the published copy, you might find that FrontPage has forgotten the configuration of various components. This is because FrontPage uses HTML comments to record these settings. Pages without comments will still work correctly, but you should avoid opening and directly modifying pages in the remote location. Instead, make your changes to the local Web site (which still contains the comments), and then republish to the remote site. Removing comments as you publish to a remote site, and then publishing the remote site back to your local site effectively erases every comment in your site, and therefore a great many component configurations. Think twice before placing yourself in this situation.

Formatting Paragraphs
The arrangement and layout of paragraphs or any blocks of text are key elements of page layout and visual communication. FrontPage therefore provides a rich assortment of tools that control paragraph appearance.
Using HTML s Basic Paragraph Styles
FrontPage supports the basic HTML paragraph styles shown in Figure 8-9. These are paragraph styles and not font styles; they modify the appearance of an entire paragraph and not of any specific text. HTML was designed to specify the structure of a document s elements, not the explicit formatting of a given element; therefore, each browser will display these elements according to its own settings and the system configuration on which it s running. Headings 1 through 6 are for successively lower-level titles. In practice, any page with six levels of titles is probably too long and an excellent candidate for separation into multiple pages. Nevertheless, the availability of six styles provides more flexibility in selecting sizes. (You might, for example, choose to use Headings 1 through 3, or 4 through 6.) Heading 1 generally uses the largest font, and Heading 6, the smallest. The Normal style is for ordinary text. Like the heading styles and most of the other styles, it specifies no fixed line width but instead wraps within its container.
Part 3: Editing Basic Page Content
Adding and Formatting Text
Figure 8-9. FrontPage supports these standard HTML paragraph styles.
Note In HTML parlance, a container is any object that limits the space for displaying another object. The default and most common container is the browser window, but table cells, divisions, frames, and other objects can also be containers. The Formatted style is unique in three respects: It uses a monospaced font; it preserves and displays multiple spaces; and it doesn t wrap within the browser window. Because of these characteristics, the Formatted style is useful for applications like tabular data and program listings, where preservation of columns and letter spaces is vital. The Address style identifies Web addresses. Its most common use is making e-mail hyperlinks stand out from ordinary text. Web address paragraphs frequently appear in italics. To assign any of these basic styles to a paragraph, click or select any part of the paragraph, and then select the desired style from the Style drop-down list on the Formatting toolbar.
In addition, there are two style shortcut keys:
Ctrl+Shift+N Ctrl+Shift+L

Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 Inside Out The following buttons on the Formatting toolbar also modify the appearance of text:

Decrease Indent Increase Indent Outside Borders
Decreases the paragraph indentation or nesting level of selected list items. Increases the paragraph indentation or nesting level of selected list items. Adds or removes visible borders around or between paragraphs.
Aligning Text
HTML provides only five settings for aligning paragraph text: Default, Left, Center, Right, and Justify. There are three ways to apply these settings:
Q Use the Align Left, Center, Align Right, and Justify buttons on the Formatting toolbar.
When an alignment is in effect, its button will remain selected. To specify default align ment, click the selected button again to clear it.
