One of the most obvious means by which Word integrates with the Web is the Web toolbar, shown in Figure 24-3. As an experienced Word user, you re probably familiar with the Web toolbar. It has been around since Word 97, and its appearance and functionality haven t changed since its introduction. Primarily, this toolbar is provided as a convenience so that you can access Web pages and browse hyperlinks included in documents displayed in Word. By default, when you open a Web page using the Web toolbar, the Web page opens in your browser.

Favorites
Opens your Favorites list, which can contain local files and folders as well as locations on networks and the Internet. This list is the same Favorites list available to you from within Internet Explorer. Provides a menu with options that enable you to open a hyperlink, move backward or forward, display the start or search page, and set the default start or search page to the currently displayed page. Maximizes your viewing area by hiding all toolbars except the Web toolbar and the menu bar. When you d like to display the hidden toolbars again, click the Show Only Web Toolbar button again. Lets you enter a local or an online path name to access information. You can click the Address arrow to display the same history list of links that are available from the Internet Explorer Address box.

Tip Specify a Start Page You can control which Web page opens when you click the Start Page button by configuring your browser s Start Page settings. For example, in Internet Explorer, you control your start page by choosing Tools, Internet Options, and then configuring the Home Page section in the General tab in the Internet Options dialog box.
Using the Task Pane to Initiate Online-Related Tasks
The task pane introduced in Office XP continues to play a major role in Office 2003. Among the task pane s many features, you ll find a number of Web and network related options that enable you to use the task pane to integrate online capabilities as you work. In particular, you can open the task pane by choosing View, Task Pane (or pressing Ctrl+F1) and then use the Getting Started task pane along with other task pane views (accessible by clicking the task pane title bar) to perform the following Internet-related tasks:
Create a new blank Web page or e-mail message.
In the New Document task pane,
click the Web Page or E-Mail Message link.
Access templates stored on your Web sites and in the online Microsoft Office Tem
plate Gallery. In the Templates section in the New Document task pane, click the On My Web Sites or Templates On Office Online link.
Access Microsoft Office Online and the Office Update Web sites.
Search online.
In the Search Results task pane, you can search Microsoft Office Online as well as Office Marketplace. In the Clip Art task pane, click the Clip Art On Office Online link. 639

In the Word Help task pane, you can access online help as well as assistance and training from the Microsoft Online Web site. Furthermore, you can access newsgroups by clicking the Communities link, and you can visit the Office Update site by clicking the Downloads link.
