The TextAlignment property replaces Alignment and can be one of nine possible values, such as TopLeft, MiddleCenter, and so on. The FlatStyle property replaces Appearance and provides a flat or 3-D appearance. The PreferredWidth and PreferredHeight properties return the optimal size for the control, given its current text and font. The new Image property can be assigned the image to be displayed in the Label control. Or you can assign an ImageList control to the ImageList property and the index of the image to the ImageIndex property. You control the position of the image in the control by using the ImageAlign property (nine possible values).

This new control is a Label control that can contain one or more hyperlink areas. You can choose from two ways to define a hyperlink inside a LinkLabel control. In the sim plest case, you assign a LinkArea object to the property with the same name and define its underline behavior by using the LinkBehavior property:

If you have multiple links, you have to add each of them to the Links collection programmatically because you can t do it from the Properties window. After you build the collection, you can further read or modify properties of individual LinkLabel.Link objects by means of their Enabled and Visited properties:
LinkLabel1.Text = Visit our Home Page, or jump to the document"
Make Home Page a link.
LinkLabel1.Links.Add(10, 9, home )
Make document a link.
LinkLabel1.Links.Add(36, 8, doc )
Mark the Home Page document as visited.
LinkLabel1.Links(0).Visited = True

The third argument of the Add method can be any string or object that identifies that spe cific link. This value is then exposed to the LinkClicked event as a property of the LinkLabel.Link object. You typically react to this event by displaying an Internet page inside a WebBrowser control or a new instance of Internet Explorer. The easiest way to do it is by invoking the Process.Start shared method. (I cover the Process object in Chap ter 19.)
Private Sub LinkLabel1_LinkClicked(ByVal sender As Object, _ ByVal e As LinkLabelLinkClickedEventArgs) Handles LinkLabel1.LinkClicked Select Case e.Link.LinkData Case home" Process.Start( http://www.vb2themax.com ) Case doc" Process.Start( http://www.vb2themax.com/team.asp ) End Select Mark the link as visited, and disable it. e.Link.Visited = True e.Link.Enabled = False End Sub
You can control the colors used for hyperlinks with the ActiveLinkColor, VisitedLinkColor, and DisabledLinkColor properties. The LinkLabel control (see Figure 16-1) inherits all the remaining properties from the Label control, including the ability to align text and display images.

The CheckBox, RadioButton, and Button Controls
These three controls inherit from the same ButtonBase class, so they have several properties and features in common.
The Text property replaces Caption. As I mentioned before, you can align the text in nine different ways by using the TextAlign property. The FlatStyle property replaces Appearance and provides a flat or 3-D appearance. You have full control of ForeColor and BackColor properties, even for Button con trols. You can display icons by using the Image property, align them with the ImageAlign property, or load them from an ImageList control with the ImageList

and ImageIndex properties. You can also assign an image to the BackgroundIm age property to create a textured button. (See Figure 16-2.)
The Appearance property replaces Style and determines whether a CheckBox or a RadioButton control is displayed as a button.
Figure 16-2 You can create a colored or textured background for all controls inherited from the ButtonBase class.
