Displaying Class Selector Samples
Figure 9-18 shows another Web page that may be helpful when working with SharePoint themes. It displays an example of each class selector in a standard SharePoint theme.

The following procedure may help when choosing the class selectors for a custom page:
1 Add the showstyles.aspx page and the SharePoint.gif file to your Web site. 2 Update the showstyles.aspx page to use the same shared style sheets and themes as the rest of the site. 3 Display the showstyles.aspx page in your browser. 4 Scroll through the page and find the selector that creates the appearance you want. 5 If more than one selector meets your needs, choose a name that most closely reflects the use you have in mind. The selectors Windows SharePoint Services uses for buttons have the word Button in their name; those it uses for calendars have Cal in their name, and so forth.
On the CD
To find the showstyles.aspx page on the Companion CD, browse to the folder \utils\ShowStyles.

Using Interactive Buttons
Graphical buttons are among the most popular user interface elements on the Web. Unlike the plain, gray buttons that HTML provides, these are actually picture files. When the mouse pointer passes over them a different picture appears, and when the mouse moves away the original picture appears. Such buttons may also change appearance when the Web visitor clicks them. FrontPage 2003 has a new component called Interactive Buttons that makes it very easy to create such buttons. Figure 9-19 shows a Web page that uses five of these components. Each button looks like a file tab, and the button under the mouse pointer is darker. The button gets even darker if the Web visitor clicks it.

Here s the procedure for adding an Interactive Button component to any Web page. It assumes that you ve already opened the page in Design view.
Part IV: Creating and Designing Sites Using FrontPage 2003

1 Set the insertion point where you want the Interactive Button component to appear. 2 Choose Interactive Button from the Insert menu. 3 When the Interactive Button dialog box shown in Figure 9-20 appears, select the entries in the Buttons list until you find your favorite. As you click each choice, a sample button appears in the Preview area.
