6 By default, the Retrieve IDs For Lookup Columns check box should be selected. This is almost always the best choice, because then Access can modify the value of any lookup columns the view or list contains. If you clear this check box, Access can t maintain the lookup relationship. Therefore, any lookup columns will be read-only in Access. When you re finished with this wizard page, click Next. 7 If the Select Views wizard page shown in Figure 4-27 appears, select the view or views you want to import or link. To select more than one view, press Ctrl and click the ones you want. When you re finished with this wizard page, click Next.

8 If the Select Related Lists wizard page shown in Figure 4-28 appears, its Related Lists box will display all the lists that control lookup columns within the lists or views you selected. If for some reason you don t want to import or link to any of these tables, deselect them. However, the associated lookup columns will then be read-only. When you re finished with this wizard page, click Next.

Troubleshooting
Some list fields are read-only in Access You may encounter situations where you select the Retrieve IDs For Lookup Columns check box on the Select Lists wizard page, and you select all the lists in the Select Related Lists wizard page, but some fields in the Access tables are nevertheless read-only. There are two possible reasons for this. One or more tables that appeared in the Select Related Lists wizard page themselves contain lookup fields. To correct this situation, link to those tables separately. Windows SharePoint Services may have sole control of the column. For example, you can t update the Created, Created By, Modified, or Modified By columns of a table linked to a SharePoint Tasks list. Windows SharePoint Services will update those columns automatically when you create or update records in the list.
Once you ve linked to a SharePoint list, it will appear in Access as shown in Figure 4-30. The [ ] links in the Edit column display the SharePoint list item in your browser. The arrows in front of the table icons indicate SharePoint links. Normal Access table icons identify lists you import. Here s the procedure for exporting an Access table or query to a SharePoint list.
1 In Access, select the table or query you want to export. 2 Choose Export from the File menu. 3 When the Export dialog box appears, select Windows SharePoint Services in the Files Of Type drop-down list. This opens the Export To Windows SharePoint Services Wizard.
