Updating General Settings
To change the general settings for the list, click the Change General Settings link that appears below the General Settings heading. This displays the List Settings page shown in Figure 6-8.

This page displays and changes the configuration of a SharePoint site list.
Once the List Settings page is on display, make any changes you like to the following fields:
Name
Type a name that will identify this list throughout the site. Briefly describe the list s content or purpose.
Description
Display This List On The Quick Launch Bar
Select Yes if you want the Quick Launch bar on the site s home page to display a link to this list. Click Yes if you want to hide any new items from public view until an administrator or list manger approves them.

Designing Lists, Libraries, and Pages Clicking Yes also provides two new views of the list: one for administrators and list managers to review all Pending, Rejected, and Approved items, and one where a team member can check the status of items he or she submitted. For more information about content approval, refer to the section titled Using Content Approval in 3, Using SharePoint Built-In Features.
Attachments To List Items Are Read Access
Click Enabled if it s all right for team members to attach a file to each list item. Otherwise, click Disabled.

Specify which items team members other than administrators and list managers can modify. All items Select this option if any team member can modify any item in the list. Only Their Own Select this option if team members can modify only items they themselves submitted. None Select this option to stop team members from editing any items.

Saving a Template
Clicking the Save List As Template link displays a Save List As Template Web page. That page saves a copy of the current list as a template that team members can use to create more lists with the same structure and, optionally, the same initial content. The saved template will appear as an option on the Create page for any site within the current site collection When the Save List As Template Web page appears, fill in these fields and then click OK. This will save the template in the current site collection s List Template Gallery.
File Name
Type a filename base for the template. Normally, this should be a shortened form of the full list name. Windows SharePoint Services will supply a filename extension of .stp Supply a one-line name that will identify the template. Type a few sentences that describe the template and its use.

Select this check box if you want the template to include the content of the current list. Clear it if you want a new list based on this template to be empty.
