The Assigned To field in Figure 6-22 is a lookup field based on a User Information list that the SharePoint site provides. This is the list of authorized team members.
To change or delete the content of a list item:
1 Click on the item s title (which should be a hyperlink). 2 When the item appears on its own page, click the Edit Item or Delete toolbar button.
Alternatively, move the mouse pointer over the item s title, click the drop-down arrow, and then choose Edit Item or Delete Item from the shortcut menu as shown below.

Working with Lists in Datasheet View
If a team member s computer has Excel 2003 installed, it s also possible to create, modify, and delete list items using the Datasheet View shown in Figure 6-23. To invoke this view, display the usual list view page and then click the Edit In Datasheet toolbar button.

Designing Lists, Libraries, and Pages Here are the procedures for some common operations involving Datasheet View.
To add an item (that is, a row), use any of these steps:
Click the New Row toolbar button. Right-click the grid and choose Add Row. Scroll to the bottom of the grid.
Any of these methods will reveal a blank row, marked with an asterisk at the left. Click any field in this row and start typing the new row content. editing, whether by typing, by drop-down list, or some other method. You can t edit columns that Windows SharePoint Services maintains. Created, Created By, Modified, Modified By, for example, fall into this category.
To delete an item, right-click its row and choose Delete. To delete several adjacent items, select their rows, right-click, and choose Delete Rows. To sort or filter on any column, click the drop-down arrow at the right of its column To return to standard view, click the Show In Standard View toolbar button. To add a new column, right-click anywhere in the datasheet, and then choose Add

To modify the value in any row or editable column, just click it. This opens the value to
name. This displays a selectable list of sorting and filtering options.

To create a document library, form library, or picture library, proceed as follows:

Click the Create link at the top of any page. Click Custom List In Datasheet View. Fill out the New List page shown previously in Figure 6-2. Click OK to display the list in Datasheet View. Initially, the list will have only a Title field. To add, modify, and delete columns, right-click and choose from the shortcut menu, as described in the two bullet points just above.
