Creating and Using Surveys
Surveys are a particularly interesting type of list. Creating a survey requires four basic steps:
Let the survey population fill out the form. Analyze the results.
Although a SharePoint site can t choose questions for you, it does most of the work for the three remaining steps. Here s the procedure:
1 Open the site where team members will complete the survey. 2 Click the Create link on the top navigation bar of any page in the site. This displays the Create Page page, shown previously in Figure 6-1. 3 Click the Survey link on the Create Page page. This displays the New Survey page shown in Figure 6-25.

Description purpose.
Display This Survey On The Quick Launch Bar Select Yes if you want all Quick Launch bars in the current site to contain a link to this survey. Show User Names In Survey Results Select Yes if displays of survey results should include the name of each respondent. This, however, doesn t stop the survey from recording the name of each respondent. An administrator could still look up those names. Allow Multiple Responses survey multiple times. Select Yes if the same person can fill out the
Click the Next button when these entries are complete.
4 The Create New Question page shown in Figure 6-26 constructs the first (or next) survey question.

5 The bottom half of the Edit Question page changes depending on the type of answer you specify. Figure 6-26 shows the format that appears if you choose Lookup (Information Already On This Site). Configure each option as follows: Require A Response To This Question Select Yes if the survey respondent must answer the question before proceeding. Select No if answering the question is optional. Get Information From Select the table that contains the list of valid choices. In This Column Select the column that contains the list of valid choices. Include Presence Information Select this check box to place an icon showing the selected person s Windows Messenger status next to the displayed field. (This check box appears only if the lookup table is User Information.) For assistance in filling out the Optional Settings For Your Question section for other types of answers, refer to the section titled Adding List Columns earlier in this chapter. 6 If this is the last question in the survey, click Finish. Otherwise, click Next Question, and go back to step 4. Clicking Finish displays the Customization page shown in Figure 6-27. Review the following links in the General Settings area, and modify them as necessary: Change General Settings Displays a Change General Settings page very similar to the one shown in Figure 6-25. This provides a way to update these settings without re-creating the survey. Save Survey As Template Saves a copy of the survey for use in creating additional surveys in the future. Change Permissions For This Survey Controls who can complete, modify, and view the survey. Delete This Survey Removes the survey forms, links, and data from the SharePoint site. All these links work very much like those for lists, as described earlier in this chapter.
