Here are the exact steps you need to perform when opening a SharePoint site saved as a package:
1 Open the destination Web site in FrontPage. If necessary, use the Empty Web Site template to create a new site as described in the earlier section titled Creating General Purpose Sites. 2 Choose Packages from the Tools menu, and then choose Import from the submenu. 3 When the File Open dialog box shown in Figure 7-12 appears, select the package file, and then click OK.

Figure 7-12. FrontPage displays a standard File Open dialog box to find files that contain a Web package.
The Import Package command won t accept files that the Backup command created. However, the Restore command will accept files that the Export Package command created.

Specifying Package Import Settings
Once you ve opened a saved SharePoint package, the Import Web Package dialog box shown in Figure 7-13 will appear.

To continue, verify the URL that appears in the Destination box and type any corrections. Alternatively, click Browse to locate the Web server where you want the imported content to reside. Tip
The default destination for a package is the site currently open in FrontPage. The path within that site defaults to the package s filename base.
Items From Web Package To Import
Confirm each item in the package you want to import. If the check box to the left of an item is selected, SharePoint will import it. Normally, you should import all the items in the package. If a plus sign precedes an item, clicking the plus sign shows dependent items. In the case of lists, for example, the pages that process the list are dependent on the list itself. If you don t import a list, you don t import the pages that process it either. Click this button to select every item in the Items From Web Package To Import list.
Unselect All Properties
Click this button to clear the selection for every item in the Items From Web Package To Import list. Click this button to view the Title, Description, Author, Company, Size, and External Dependencies of the package.
Destination
Specify the folder where you want the imported package to reside. This is a folder within the Web site you specified in step 5. 229

An external dependency is a file that the package requires but doesn t include. Usually these are files that appear in the root Web site when an administrator installs SharePoint.

Review and respond to the following settings in the Import Web Package dialog box:

Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services Inside Out If, for example, several people are going to have Web logs in the same site, you would import the package once for each person, specifying a different folder location each time. To import the package in the site s root location, delete this field. Note
In Figure 7-13, Links, Log, and LogDiscuss are SharePoint lists rather than files.

After completing these entries, click the Import button in the Import Web Package dialog box. If you get any security warnings or other prompts, respond to them. FrontPage will display an Importing Package dialog box that contains a progress bar and that might seem to freeze occasionally. Be patient eventually, you ll receive this confirmation message:
Caution
Importing a SharePoint package doesn t import security settings. Any items you import will have the new site s default permissions. If this isn t correct, open the site in a browser and use site, list, or library settings to configure the permissions you want.
