1. On the Build menu, select Deploy AdventureWorks SSAS . 2. After the cube has been deployed and processed successfully, click the Browser tab of the Cube Designer and then click the Reconnect button on the Browser tab toolbar . 3. Remove Reseller Count and Reseller Avg Sales from the report . 4. In the Metadata pane, expand the Product % folder and add the Product % of Parent and Product % of Total calculated members to the Report pane totals area . The report shows that Mountain Bike sales ($26,492,684) are 39 .96% of parent Bike sales ($66,302,382) and 32 .93% of total product sales ($80,450,597) .

Because the name Calculated Member implies manipulating numbers, and because most calculated members are created in the measures dimension, it is easy to forget that you can create calculated members in any dimension . When you create a calculated member in a dimension other than the measures dimension, you must specify where in the dimension the member will appear . The new member will be a child of a member in one of the hierarchies . One very common scenario is to create a member named Continental US that is the sum of the 48 continental United States and another member named Alaska And Hawaii that is the sum of those two states . These two calculated members would then be a child of the United States member in the Customer dimension Customers By Geography user-defined hierarchy . In the next procedure, you will create a calculated member equal to the sum of the Bikes and Components categories . The calculated member will be a child of the All member of the Product dimension Product by Category user-defined hierarchy . Because the new calculated member is a child of the All member, it will belong to the Category level of the Product By Category hierarchy .

Create a non-measures dimension calculation
1. In the Cube Designer, click the Calculations tab and then click the Reconnect button . 2. In the Script Organizer, select the Product % of Parent member and on the Calculations toolbar, click the New Calculated Member button . 3. In the Calculated Member Editor, change the name to [Bikes & Components] . 4. In the Parent Hierarchy list, expand the Product dimension, select Product By Category, and click OK . 5. Click the Change button next to the Parent Member selection area . In the Select Parent Member dialog box, select the All member . The Bikes & Components calculated member is now a member of the Product dimension Product by Category user-defined hierarchy . It will be a child of the All member and be in the Category level . Click OK .
6. In the Expression text box, enter the following MDX expression, which uses the SUM function to add two tuples:
SUM({[Product].[Product by Category].[Category].&[1] ,[Product].[Product by Category].[Category].&[2]})

Creating Advanced Measures and Calculations
You can drag items from the Calculation Tools pane to make creating this expression easier . You will need to expand the Product dimension, the Product By Category hierarchy, and the Category level . Then drag the Bikes member and the Components member to the Expression text box . When you drag the members to the Expression text box, the member names are replaced by the member keys . The member key for Bikes is 1 and the member key for Components is 2 . Alternatively, you can copy the expression from the file C:\Microsoft Press\Analysis Services 2008 SBS\ 06\MDX\Bikes & Components .t xt . Tip I find it difficult to remember what key belongs to what member, so I often replace member keys with the member name . If you do this, remember to remove the ampersand (&) . The Bikes & Components calculated member does not include a measure . Instead, for each cell in the cube, the calculated member uses the current member of the measures dimension . When you browse the cube, you will see that the Bikes & Components member can be used to sum any measure or measure dimension calculated member that appears in the cube . Leave the FormatString property blank so that you can see how the Bikes & Components calculated member interacts with the cube s measures .
