Configure TCP/IP Properties
In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties of the Local Area Connection, select the Use The Following IP Address option. Then, manually configure the computer with an IP address, such as 192.168.10.1. Finally, beneath the Use The Following DNS Server Addresses option, type this same chosen address as the preferred Domain Name System (DNS) server.
Add Server Roles
Click the Manage Your Server option on the Start menu. Then, in the Manage Your Server window, click the Add Or Remove A Role option to add the following roles one at a time. (For each role, enter any information provided below. Otherwise, leave all default options.)
File Server Domain Controller (Active Directory directory service)
Full DNS Name for New Domain: nwtraders.msft. Note that the DNS registration diagnostics are expected to fail. On the DNS Registration Diagnostics page of the Active Directory Installation Wizard, leave the default option to Install And Configure The DNS Server On This Computer.
Introduction

DHCP Server
Scope Name: Nwtraders. IP Address Range: Choose a start IP address, an end IP address, and a subnet mask that are compatible with the IP address of your server and the network space of your organization. For example, if you have specified an address of 192.168.10.1 for the local server, you can specify the DHCP scope start IP address as 192.168.10.2, the end IP address as 192.168.10.254, and the subnet mask as 255.255.255.0. Domain Name and DNS Servers: Specify the parent domain as nwtraders.msft. Type dcsrv1 in the Server Name text box, click Resolve, and then click Add to add the IP address of the local server.
Authorize the DHCP Server
1. From the Start menu, point to Administrative Tools, and then click DHCP. 2. In the DHCP console tree, right-click the dcsrv1.nwtraders.msft node, and then click Authorize from the shortcut menu. If your network has another DHCP server, you will need to disable it for your practice computers to be correctly configured. For this reason, it is extremely important that the computers you use are connected to an isolated network.
Create Personal User Accounts
1. In the Active Directory Users And Computers administrative tool, expand the nwtraders.msft node in the console tree. 2. Right-click the Users folder, point to New on the shortcut menu, and then click User. 3. In the New Object User dialog box, enter the name and user logon name of an account that you will use as a domain administrator account throughout the exercises of this training kit. Click Next. 4. Enter a password of your choice, click Next, and then click Finish. 5. In the Active Directory Users And Computers console, locate the new account you have just created in the details pane. Right-click the account, and then click Add To A Group from the shortcut menu. 6. In the Select Group dialog box, type Domain Admins, and then press Enter. In the Active Directory message box, click OK. 7. Create a second domain account using the method just described, but do NOT add this account to any group other than the default Domain Users. Use this second account whenever the exercises in this training kit require you to log on to the domain as a standard user, not as a domain administrator.
