Working with Report Properties
When you author a report, you are focused on data and layout, but when you publish a report, you must consider how the report will be used and how to optimize report properties for people who will access the report. In Visual Studio, you can define the data source properties, but you have many more properties for the report that you can set in Report Manager (or SQL Server Management Studio). These properties are managed entirely on the server and are not overwritten if you later republish the report definition to the report server. To modify report properties in Report Manager, navigate to the report and click the Properties tab. You can then select the appropriate page for the properties you want to set, as described in this section. General The General page displays information about who created or modified the report definition and when. In addition, this page allows you to change the report name, add a description, or access and update the report definition. From this page, you can use the links and buttons described in the following list:
Edit link Saves the report definition to the file system for read-only purposes; any edits you make to this file do not change the report definition used by the Report Server until you republish the report. Update link Replaces report definition used by the Report Server with a specified file. Create Linked Report button A linked report uses the same report definition as the report on which it is based, but it can have its own execution, parameter, security, and subscription properties.
