So that you can become more familiar with the cube structure, you will not use Auto Build to build this cube. 7. On the Identify Fact and Dimension Tables page of the Cube Wizard, select the check boxes in the Dimension column that correspond to dbo.DimProduct, dbo.DimTime, and dbo.DimEmployee. Notice the warning that says at least one fact table must be selected. It identifies dimension tables that are not related to a fact table. Right now, all the dimensions are listed because you haven t yet identified the fact tables. 8. Select the check boxes in the Fact column that correspond to FactResellerSales, FactInternetSales, and FactProductForecast. Your screen looks like this:

Notice that the warning disappears when you select the first fact table. At this point in the wizard, you re specifying which tables in the DSV will be used to build the cube. You will define the relationship between each dimension and each measure group later. At this point, the wizard verifies that for each fact table selected, there is at least one related dimension table selected based on the foreign key relationships defined in the DSV. 9. Click Next, and then click the >> button to move all available dimensions Product, Employee, and Time to the Cube Dimensions list, and then click Next.

10. Clear the check box in the header row to the left of Measure Groups/Measures to clear the default selection of all measures, and then select the check box to the left of Order Quantity (in the Fact Reseller Sales measure group). Notice that for each measure group there is one measure per numeric column in the fact table. Because foreign key columns are often integer columns, these columns are also included as potential measures. (You ll learn how to use a foreign key column for a distinct count measure later in this chapter.) The list of candidate measures also includes a count measure. This measure is not dependent on a column in the fact table, but instead is made available as a convenience to you. When added to a cube, this type of measure will return a count of the fact table rows summarized by dimension. Count measures are useful when each row of the fact table represents a discrete transaction or event. 11. Change the measure name from Order Quantity to Reseller Order Quantity. Notice that the first item in the available measures list, Fact Reseller Sales, is also selected when you select Order Quantity. Fact Reseller Sales will become the Measure Group that holds the Order Quantity and the other measures from the FactResellerSales table. By default, the name of the measure group is the same as the underlying fact table name. You can edit this name here, but instead you ll use the Cube Designer to rename the measure groups in the next procedure. 12. Select the check box to the left of Sales Amount, and then change the measure name to Reseller Sales Amount. 13. Scroll to find the Fact Internet Sales measure group, select the check boxes to select Order Quantity Fact Internet Sales and Sales Amount Fact Internet Sales, and change the names of these measures to Internet Order Quantity and Internet Sales Amount, respectively. Two measures with the same name, even if they come from different measure groups, are not allowed in the same cube. 14. Scroll to find the Fact Product Forecast measure group, select the check box to select Sales Amount Forecast, and then click Next. 15. Change the cube name to SSAS, and then click Finish.

Notice that the measures pane in the Cube Designer displays a measure group for each fact table that you selected in the wizard: Fact Internet Sales, Fact Reseller Sales, and Fact Product Forecast. When users browse this cube, they will see measures organized by measure group. The word Fact in the name of these measure groups will likely be confusing to users and, just as you changed dimension names to be more user-friendly, you ll change these later in this chapter.
