Design Fundamentals

Often, a Statistical section of the report contains a line for Head Count, but the values from the Head Count line are for information only; they should not be added into the Balance Sheet Total or Net Income Total values. In this section, you ll learn how to create a simple finance cube. A finance cube requires three components to create the correct behavior for a dimension representing a chart of accounts: specifying the dimension type, identifying a unary operator field, and using the ByAccount aggregation function. With these components in place, balance sheet items such as assets and liabilities, which cannot be summed across time, will be set up to display correctly. Likewise, income statement items, such as revenues and cost of goods sold, which can be summed across time, will also display correctly.
Working with Account Intelligence
The Dimension Wizard lets you add Account Intelligence to an account dimension. Account Intelligence identifies and maps standard account types to the dimension, like Asset, Liability, Income, and Expense. This mapping of account types is used in combination with attribute properties to produce the correct aggregation behavior for each account. Note
Account Intelligence only applies to dimensions with underlying data sources because of its dependency on the table structure.
When you create an Account dimension, you specify the dimension type Accounts. This dimension type tells Analysis Services that the dimension contains a chart of accounts and will be used for financial analysis. You also map specific columns in the underlying dimension table to attribute types, as shown in this table:
