Differences with Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
Feature Parity in Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
A number of features in Windows XP Professional were not included with the earlier Windows XP 64-Bit Edition. The new Windows XP Professional x64 Edition has substantial feature parity with the 32-bit version of Windows XP Professional. The main differences are as follows:
IPSec implementation in Windows XP Professional x64 Edition is identical to that in Windows Server 2003. Data Execution Prevention (DEP) implementation in Windows XP Professional x64 Edition is identical to that in Windows Server 2003 except that the default configuration is OptIn instead of OptOut as it is for Windows Server 2003. The Files and Settings Transfer Wizard in Windows XP Professional x64 Editions supports migrating both from 32-bit Windows XP to 64-bit Windows XP and also between 64-bit Windows XP machines that have the same architecture. NetMeeting in Windows XP Professional x64 Edition does not support Application Sharing or Remote Desktop Sharing. Remote Assistance in Windows XP Professional x64 Edition does not support Voice Over IP (VoIP).
In addition, the following features are supported in Windows XP Service Pack 2 but are not supported in Windows XP Professional x64 Edition:
Windows Server 2003 Administration Tools Pack (Adminpak.msi) Windows Media Player 9 IEEE 1394 audio SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft OLE DB 16-bit applications Legacy subsystems and protocols such as MS-DOS , 16-bit subsystem, IPX/SPX protocol, AppleTalk protocol, Services for Macintosh, Data Link Control (DLC) protocol, NetBEUI protocol, Service Advertising Protocol (SAP) protocol, IPX router, Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) protocol, and NetBIOS gateway
