Select all three checkboxes and specify that files older than 10 days will be removed and then click OK to create the new policy The new policy will now be displayed beneath the System Policies node in the Vancouver administrative group in System Manager (Figure 203) At this point, we would next add servers to the policy and then apply the policy, but we ll do that later in this chapter For now, let s discuss the other types, namely mailbox-store and public-store policies

We ll create a mailbox store policy in the same System Policies container we created for the Vancouver administrative group Right-click on the System Policies container and select New Mailbox Store Policy to open the New Policy dialog box (Figure 204) We can choose up to four different tabs for this new policy, namely General, Database, Limits, and Full-Text Indexing Any tabs you don t select here won t appear on the Properties Sheet for the new policy Select all the checkboxes in the New Policy dialog box and click OK A blank Properties Sheet with six tabs appears for the new policy In addition to the General and Details tabs discussed previously, these four tabs have the following configurable settings:

System Policies
Figure 204 Creating a new mailbox-store policy
General (Policy) tab This tab is used for configuring settings of general importance for mailbox stores including the default public store and offline address list associated with mailbox stores, whether messages should be archived, and so on These settings are the same as those on the General tab of the Properties Sheet for any mailbox store ( 15) Database (Policy) tab This tab is used for configuring the maintenance interval for mailbox stores ( 15) Limits (Policy) tab This tab is used for configuring storage limits and deleted-item retention settings for mailbox stores ( 15) Full-Text Indexing (Policy) tab This tab is used for configuring update and rebuild intervals for full-text indexing for mailbox stores ( 19)
Insert the new policy name Test MBS Policy on the General tab, specify a storage limit to issue a warning at 3000 KB, and then click OK to create the new mailbox-store policy We ll see later how to add mailbox stores to the policy
Public-store Policy
Public-store policies offer configurable settings similar to those of mailbox-store settings, with the addition of a fifth tab for configuring replication settings Once these settings are applied to a group of public-folder stores, you cannot override them on the Properties Sheets for the individual stores because the settings have been disabled

Walkthrough
Let s create a public-store policy in the same System Policies container we used for Vancouver Right-click on the System Policies container and select New Public Store Policy to open the New Policy dialog box There are up to five different tabs for this new policy, namely General, Database, Replication, Limits, and Full-Text Indexing Any tabs you don t select here won t appear on the Properties Sheet for the new policy Select all the checkboxes in the New Policy dialog box and click OK A blank Properties Sheet with seven tabs appears for the new policy In addition to the General and Details tabs, these five tabs have configurable settings similar or identical to those on the Properties Sheets for the individual public-folder stores ( 17) Specify a name like Test PFS Policy for the new policy on the General tab and click OK to create the new public-store policy
The icons for server policies and mailbox- and public-store policies look different in System Manager
