Also, remember that with this chart type, class 1, we normally turn on the SWITCHMATRIX parameter to get the appropriate look and feel Well, that s it for the basic formatting and adjustments, not that bad And we ve finished our chart for the columns After just doing these minor changes, the final result is as shown in the following illustration Not bad, and definitely good enough to publish Of course, the colors will have to be validated with the corporate format, but overall this is a very good start

One setting deserves mention before we go to the next example: Swap Display Axis, which is found in the Web Items area and not in the chart type configuration Depending on whether or not you have this turned on, the whole look and feel of the chart will change The next illustration shows the results both of having that parameter turned on (shown on the left) and having it turned off As you can see, this adjusts the entire display of the data and allows you to decide what look is best for your customer base Both have different pros and cons, but overall they present the story very differently

Enhanced Configuration for a Line Chart
To demonstrate enhancing the line chart type, we can take the same information we have in the other chart and switch from using yearly data to using period data In the Chart Designer, change the chart type to Line and then go into the different series, Series1, 2, and 3, and adjust the format of the line and the marker To help focus the business user on each line, we can change the color and the width of the lines and also increase the size of the marker, as shown here

Enhanced Configuration for a Pie Chart
The pie chart is one of my favorites because it can get the message across to the customer quickly and make the information very clear and concise Sure, it doesn t offer any additional bells and whistles, such as what-if statements, but with a couple of variables, we can definitely work this one into any dashboard to improve its display For the pie chart type, let s go with the 2D look and feel, as shown in the next illustration

Now we just go into the pie chart type in the Chart Designer and go to the Pie overview screen and use the ExplosionOffset to expand the slices of the pie and separate them a bit to give some depth to the chart display In that same process, we can change the look and feel of the actual slices with some enhancements to the coloring We are using the primary and secondary colors with the gradient again in the Horizontal Position to give each of the slices some two-tone colors, as shown next
