Button
Description Show/Hide Data Manager
Purpose By default, the classes and objects are displayed If you have a large query with many result columns, you may want to momentarily hide the classes and objects to see more result objects A toggle that hides the Query Filters pane to allow you to display more result objects Modify the query to retrieve more levels of details in the microcube but display only summary levels in the initial report Scope of analysis is discussed in 19 Insert a new query as another data provider for this document A quick filter allows you to add a filter on the currently selected result object and presents you with a list of values The object is then added in the Query Filters pane Create a query within a query In Desktop Intelligence, this is done by setting a condition equal to another query Add a database ranking, different from a ranking within a report Create queries that are combined with the SQL operators UNION, INTERSECT, and MINUS These are discussed in 23 Launch the SQL Viewer, allowing you to view, copy, or modify the SQL query

TIP As you build your query, you may want to save your query definitions without executing the
query This is particularly true for complex queries or queries that you know may be better run scheduled rather than in real time To do so, click Edit Report to go to the formatted report view and then select Save

Description New Document
Purpose Create a new document or query off this same universe When you are viewing the formatted report, select Edit Query to return to the query panel To design the report layout, select Edit Report Also, from here you can save your query settings and document without having first executed the query Execute the query and retrieve the data Once you run the query, you are automatically returned to the report layout If your document contains multiple queries, this button becomes a drop-down menu that allows you to select which query to execute Once you have run the query, you can purge the data from the microcube You may want to do this before publishing a corporate document to ensure users do not see data to which they do not have the appropriate permissions Display user settings for designing a report page either in pixels, centimeters, or inches using a grid Display online guide

Building a Query Step-by-Step
You can build a simple query in as little as two steps: choose the result objects and run the query However, for most reports and complex business questions, there is more involved The rest of this chapter expands on options involved in each of these steps 1 From within the InfoView portal, select New | Web Intelligence Document and choose the universe 2 Choose your Result Objects that will become columns in a report 3 Insert the appropriate Query Filters to retrieve only the data you want to analyze 4 Select Run Query 5 Apply the desired formatting Basic formatting and analysis options are discussed in 19; advanced options are discussed in 21 6 Save your document to the appropriate folder
