dragged from the Row Labels or, if the user hasn t checked the box, it can be dragged directly from the Fields section and dropped in the Column Labels box Figure 9-10 shows the results of adding the Sales Territory Group attribute hierarchy to the Row Labels The product category is shown first, and then each territory group is shown for that category Not surprisingly, the order of the dimensions in the row and columns boxes matters; if the user reverses the order of the Sales Territory Group and the Product Model Categories, the grid will change to show the territory group first, and under each territory group will be the product categories Figure 9-10 shows that the subtotals for each product category are on the same line as the category itself; in other words, the subtotals are at the top, above the breakdown by territory This is common in many financial situations, but some users might want the subtotals turned off or to appear after the territories

Figure 9-10 Multiple dimensions can be added to the rows and columns The order in which they appear in the row and column boxes determines how they will be displayed in the PivotTable
Measures cannot be moved to the Row Labels and Column Labels boxes directly Choosing more than one measure lists the measures in the Values box, but it also adds a Values item to either the Column Labels or Row Labels box This Values item can be moved from Column Labels to Row Labels or vice versa, and this will determine where the measures are displayed In order to control the subtotals, users can right-click on one of the labels and choose Field Settings For example, right-clicking on Accessories and choosing Field Settings opens the Field Settings dialog box as shown in Figure 9-11 This dialog box is not specific to Accessories, but covers all the product categories that are displayed The first tab covers options for subtotals and filters, and the first section can turn off subtotals or apply custom subtotals Simply changing this option to None turns off the subtotals Figure 9-11 shows the results of this in the background;
Business Intelligence with Microsoft Office PerformancePoint Server 2007
Figure 9-11 Multiple dimensions can be added to the rows and columns, and the order in which they appear in the row and column boxes determines how they will be displayed in the PivotTable
as you can see, the subtotals are no longer shown for the Accessories product category, or for any other category A simpler method exists for turning subtotals on and off; users can simply rightclick on one of the product category members and choose Subtotal Category (where category is the name of whatever member is being chosen) Clicking on the Subtotal Category will turn subtotals off; selecting it again will turn them back on If the only desire is to toggle the display of the subtotals, this is an easy way to do it If the user wants the subtotals to appear but move to the bottom of the group, this can be done by again opening the Field Settings dialog box and moving to the Layout & Print tab There is a check box on this tab labeled Display Subtotals at the Top of Each Group, and it is checked by default Unchecking it moves the subtotals to the bottom of each group, provided that subtotals are being displayed This adds a new row to the PivotTable for each group that contains the subtotals for that group
